A DAY IN THE DISTRICT

we highly enjoyed our day in dc.

for a hot minute back in 2010 we were all set to move to dc.
brandon had gotten accepted into the georgetown llm program (#2 in the nation),
i was hugely pregnant, looking at apartments, making preparations,
and then at the last minute (literally)
brandon got accepted to nyu (which was ranked #1)
and the rest is us history.

but back to u.s. history.
(see what i did there?)

so brandon found us a cute hotel in old town alexandria,
and in the morning we took the train into the district.

we didn't have a whole ton of time, unfortunately.
we wanted to see a museum, we wanted to see some monuments,
we wanted to walk around and get a peek at the neighborhood.

i also had strict instructions from my friend hannah
that i had to get a toasted marshmallow shake at good stuff on the hill.
i am nothing if not compliant (my husband wishes)
and oh my gosh, was that a good shake.

 ...the mall...
...the air and space museum...
...a quick stop at the botanical gardens while huck napped...
...the capitol...
okay watch out now
brandon told me he was going to do his best bill murray impression from lost in translation...
"for a good time, make it... santori time"
okay back at it:
...exploring our almost hood...
...life altering milk shakes...
 ...the monuments at night...
that one on the left isn't a monument. but it was funky so i took its photo anyway.
...and these are great. you never know what you're going to get when brandon's behind the camera...
...and riding the metro back to old town alexandria...

thanks for the day, dc!

  5. Looks so fun to romp around the Capitol! When my boyfriend gets behind the camera, I expect the same thing, blurry images of something indistinguishable. Art though right? :)

  9. I grew up splitting my time between my dad in the city and my mom just outside the city in Maryland (kind of by the DC temple). And love it there! The pictures are making me miss it there a lot. It's a gorgeous city with a personality all its own! Glad you got to stop by & enjoy it!

  10. Natalie. Oh my gosh. I am in love with your writing style. I don't even know how you write in such a relatable and engaging, yet hilarious way. Every post gets me so excited to see what you have done with words. I hope I can learn to master words like you have some day. And, of course, your style is incredible.

    1. Me too! Where at? I'm from Springfield. My dad has nailed down a very precise 'monument night tour' that he gives to friends and family visiting the area. He's so proud.

Don't you just love the Lincoln Memorial? I always imagine that it will come alive like Zeus in the Disney Hercules. :)

  24. This is fun to read. We went to Mt Vernon today and we are in DC all week from California--I have many of the same pics. Isn't it just a jolt of patriot juice to the system? I swear some of those monuments have the same sacred feeling that the temple does. Truly inspired. Your photos are beautiful!
