HAPPY FOURTH!

our fourth was filled with a walk to the east side for sprinkles cupcakes, a stop in at the central park zoo with our grouchy teething baby, catching a bit of the macy's fireworks before bed time, hotdogs for breakfast and corn on the cob for dinner. not bad really. not bad at all.

△ off duty elmo △

△ a blurry huck and his mama and a garbage can. yup. happy independence day to you! △

update:
yes that IS the same elmo who was arrested for shouting anti-semitic slurs,
and even weirder!
i was there when he was shouting them!

  2. Poor off-duty Elmo, aw. He must've been boiling in that suit.

  3. Not to be a downer, but that elmo looks a lot like the elmo in this article:

    http://www.nytimes.com/2012/06/28/nyregion/beneath-elmos-mask-a-man-with-a-disturbing-past.html

Just wanted to make you aware!! Stinks that all elmos can't be nice ones. Hopefully the one you saw is a nice one!!

  8. Let this roll around in your head-- a box of Lucky Charms is £16 here in Scotland. That is roughly $25. It must be made of gold!! Not to mention gas is $10 a gallon.

I hope you enjoyed your $2 can of Diet Coke!!

  9. How squooshy and squishy are Huck's cheeks!

  10. Oh off-duty elmo looks creepy, even more so after reading that article! and I'm dying to come to NYC - a can of diet coke in Sydney is average $2.50-$3.00 in most convenience stores. Ridonkulous!

    1. It is because overall the American average household income is much lower than Australians. It's around half I think. Sydney and NY wages are on par and Sydney is more expensive cost-wise but in terms of wages in America their prices are equivalent to $2 or $3 for us, if that makes sense. I so see what you are saying but to the average American $3 is more like $6.

  14. I was just in NYC a few weeks ago and so creeped put by the Elmos and mickeys...though I think stewie griffin was the creepiest...and grabbiest. Looks like a fun day-happy 4th!

  15. looking good with that side braid girl! hope huck's teething isn't too painful (for all parties involved)

  16. I'm wonder if $2 is cheap or expensive for a Diet Coke in NYC? In Australia it'd be the bargain of the century. I took other stuff out of this post, but that's the burning question...don't leave me hanging Nat???

  17. $2 can of diet coke? I bet it was worth every drop ;)

  18. Oh my! Steer clear of that Elmo! Silly enough (so silly, I know!), instances like this are what make me so-very-scared of big cities. There are just so many crazies. My small town feels very safe in comparison. Were you ever leery of the city?

It looks like you had a beautiful family 4th though! :)

  19. omg Natalie that photograph could win an AWARD!!!! It says SO SO SO MUCH!!!! I didn't know a THING about a grouchy NYC elmo who was arrested for making slurs, I hadn't heard about that and hadn't scrolled down to read your commentary,--- just the PHOTO itself told such a story and I was so impressed with how much of a, well, STORY it captured-- this burnt-out angry man sitting on the bench, hunched over, looking like he's a drug dealer, ugly grimace on this face, just the human ANTITHESIS of what he looks and seems like with the costume fully ON as the happy gleeful cartoon character Elmo, and your photo told all that, it's such an incredible shot!!! With his upside down Elmo head resting next to him on the bench. And THEN I scrolled down and saw that in fact this man *was* a grouchy mean elmo. Seriously you could submit that an win an award.

  20. Sprinkles!! The best.

I high fived Elmo about 4 years ago near Rockefeller Plaza. It was pretty great. That was before evil Elmo though, and I don't know if I would be nearly as brave today, especially with a little babe in arms!

  21. Looks like a great day to me! And I love the photo of the "off duty Elmo." haha!

  22. Only $2 for a cold soda?! Dirt cheap. In Zurich, a cold soda will set you back $5 minimum. No joke. :( Happy 4th of July! Love the photos!!! xo

NATALIE! i used to work in the building with the mini lady lib in front of it! i worked there for a week. my job was signing a multi-millionaire's christmas cards. (no, really.)

for some reason, my first thought when i saw those pictures was, 'oh! one degree of separation between natthefatrat & me!' i had almost the same thought when i saw the mini statue of liberty for the first time because, embarrassingly enough, i saw this replica before i saw the real thing...
