AROUND OUR HOUSE LATELY

we awake in the mornings after brandon leaves for work. we ask with sleepy voices, what should we do today? what's sounds good for breakfast? i tickle that spot just under his chin, it's still chubby and soft and it still makes him lie still for a minute and smile while i tell him all about our plans.

we shuffle out to fetch cups of yogurt and start the heaters. we find the remote for the dvd player for our favorite morning cartoons and we point our toes once from the couch. we stretch our arms and brush our teeth. we get dressed.

we go outside and freeze. we run about til our chins are numb and errands are done, then we come inside to thaw. our cheeks buzz softly until the brisk pink fades.

we fetch drinks from the fridge, we tidy up the mess. we clean the bathrooms, we build block towers, we vacuum the rugs. we count to ten, we sing our ABCs. we stop to check instagram or text something funny to brandon.

we start up dinner, we start up cartoons. we abandon cartoons, we start up choo choo trains. we start up emails. we abandon emails. we start up a load of dishes.

we give daddy kisses, we admire him in his suit and tie. we ask "how was your day?" we re-enact our comings and goings. we put on our stretchiest pants. we write up a silly little blog post and hope the internet is kind.

we stay up late and watch another movie.

the boy is softly breathing from the other side of the door.

p.s.
my goonies shirt is from HERE.
(huck's boots are from the gap!)

  14. You will miss these days. I know there's probably a lot to complain about -- the cold, no second baby, Brandon working long hours -- but there is so much good too. Your time with Huck is joyous :).

  18. Lovely post. Your days sound a lot like mine, except that 3/4 of my kids are older. Right now at the computer, I hear those sweet breathing sounds from their bedrooms. Love it.

  19. Love this! I think this is almost exactly how our day goes as well. It's funny how that works. I am excited for my little guy to get older and participate in the decision making throughout the day.

  21. Love the teapot cozy! Too cute. I just got one for my hot chocolate mug. I feel cozy now too.

I want to know what kinds of errands you and Huck do? I never seem to have "errands" to run. I'm totally boring.

  29. Baby yellow skinny jeans and tiny boots? The cuteness is KILLING ME! I second the awesomeness of small and large marshmallow jars. Every good home should have those.

  31. Is it weird that I woke up this morning thinking silently to myself, "I wonder what Natalie Holbrook and Henry do everyday, all day?" Then I grab my coffee, come to check out your blog, and ta-da! You answered my question. Just thought I'd share this with you. I absolutely love your blog...in fact, i'm a tad bit obsessed! I love the way you write, the way you decorate, your style, and Henry is just precious! You're so beautiful too. But your blog serves for endless nights of entertainment here in Tennessee. :)

  33. You are such a sweet soul..and a good Mama. I have so appreciated the honesty of your blog over the years of following. Be encouraged...God knows your deepest desires and He won't ever let you down. Timings stinks sometimes, but perspective is beautiful. I promise it will all work out and someday God will give us all the blessing of seeing how His plan unfolded perfectly (I tell myself this as much as you). (Hope that's not weird...we don't know each other...I just feel like we Mamas could all use a little encouragement from each other once in a while.)

    Have a wonderful weekend! :)

  36. Awww, so sweet. What an adorable apartment (for an adorable family :) ). We're the same age, so I have to ask: Do you ever walk around your place and think, "Holy crap, this is my stuff! Like, I actually have a home and can buy stuff for it! Look - that tea cozy? MINE!" No? Just me? Oh. Well then.

  38. It's so great you get to spend all that time with your boy. I can't spend as much time with my little angel but I try to play as much as I can whenever I have the chance to do it. Sometimes I actually forget about work and I just play with my daughter all day long but I wish I had as much time as you do. Great pictures by the way

  43. You will think this is strange, but I'm passing this on anyway. I saw the "wall" of photos (maybe it's on your fridge) and remembered what a friend said about "walls" of photos. She asked her fiance for a picture of his folks. It took him 45 minutes of looking to find one. He didn't like photos. Then they went to his folks' house and she realized why. The walls were covered with photos of him (only child) taken throughout his life. So, think twice about photos everywhere is my advice.
