LEARNING TO WAIT AND OTHER FRIDAY LESSONS

well here is the bad news: huck and his obsessive love affair with brown rice have finally come to an end.

"noooo, no brown rice!"

i am heartbroken. so sad, such a tragedy.

but here's the good news: huck has moved on to apples. which, sure! he spits the skin out as he goes and it's sort of hysterical to follow his little trails of apple skins all over the house.

so i snapped these photos of huck waiting on a ham & gruyere at vive la crepe this afternoon . . . one thing i can say for my parenting skills is i'm somehow raising quite a patient, well-mannered little dude, i'm pretty proud of him. and good thing, too, somehow it never takes less than 15 minutes to get a crepe, even when the place is completely empty. it's some kind of mystery of the universe.

▲▲▲ barely related: start your engines, it's saltwater season!
▲▲▲ it's here! it's here!
▲▲▲ good job, young padawan.

i tell you what, huck. i would not mind it one bit if you decided to go on a ham + cheese crepe jag next.

  1. I've decided that trying to feed toddlers is a complete joke. One day they're in love with food XX and the next day it's like you're trying to poison them. Let them eat cake!

  2. Love all Huck's little faces!! x

  3. That face!!! Too precious. Also, your burrito bowl sounds identical to mine, although I'm minus the tomatoes (I've never liked the little guys) and chicken instead of steak.

  12. My chipotle people also know my order by heart. My order is almost the same as yours, but chicken in for the steak and have to have the guac, but I decided to mix it up with some carnitas the other day, and I totally threw the guy for a loop. I also tend to alternate between the two in town so it doesn't seem like I'm there quite as often as I actually am.... Thank you for sharing those pictures of the Huck, he is the coolest kid I don't actually know, and those photos pretty much killed me with awesomeness.

  23. He is adorable, as always... I think it's funny to watch them "wait"... mine will tap her foot at the bagel counter (who taught her this!?!?)

we were on a frozen waffle kick for a while... which was lovely. she preferred the waffle untoasted, right out of the freezer, no messin'. upon leaving target she would have a frozen waffle in hand and be the happiest kid in the world.... while every other grown-up looked at me, hard.

  31. I was wholly dissapointed when my now five year old son got over his tofu stage (in other words he finally figured out what I was feeding him was not normal toddler fare)... he also went through a two-year frozen waffle stage. I was at a party Saturday and his whole plate was mosty veggies, all picked out by himself, and I was complimented ten-fold for my ability to get my kids on the veggie train. Probably one of my favorite mama moments.
My 15 month old daughter and I had an errand running date Friday and she was introduced to the Chipolte burrito bowl (mines brown rice, black beans, mix of chicken and carnitas, medium salsa, sour cream/cheese... and yum)... she's pretty much in love. A girl after her mama's heart.
