  2. Go for the dip dye! Or at least a semi-permanent if you're into it. You can definitely rock it--thirty or not. (I mean, seriously, don't tattoos look the most badass when they're on people 60+? We'll just go ahead and apply the same principle here. That's how it works, right?)

  3. What is it with boys not wanting to buy new clothes? Love your words Natalie. Such wonderful words. I can't wait until you're posting saying your book is available!

  4. I suggest you get a clothes fairy for your husband. It comes during the day when he's at work. The old clothes slowly disappear one by one while shiny new clothes appear in their place. Of course this only works if the fairy knows his sizes and generally what he likes. The clothes fairy is great. It's always shopping it gets stuff on sale and there are never any last minutes awful shopping trips when your husband doesn't have anything to wear to a wedding or his old flip flops fall apart minutes before you were going to leave for the beach.

  5. What is it with these men?! I once had to secretly throw away a pair of tracksuit pants that my husband had for - I don't know, DECADES?! Anyway, we've all moved on and it makes for a great family joke now, even though at the time it was seriously, I don't know - scary?! Hah.

  7. First, my hubby is the same way about clothes. We are in our early 40s and he has a pair of shorts that I saw him wear in high school. They are called the Blue Bombers (yes, he named them) and if I would ever toss them I am sure he would pack the kids up and go. You know, if I could be so callous as toss the Blue Bombers who knows what I might do to the kids. Once a year he, if he needs it or not lol, he goes to Brooks Brothers and buys some new lawyer-like clothes. Oh wel

  9. Because you're staying in your not-so-favorite neighborhood (or maybe just not your first choice), maybe you could do a series on the best finds (food, for example) in your area. Sort of like when you did the search for the best chocolate chip cookie in New York, but this time just focusing on your neighborhood-ish? Purely an idea! I truly did love your cookie search though! :)

  10. So sorry about the lease renewal, but I feel like it's just one of those things...years from now, maybe you'll look back and realize it really was the right thing at the time.

I did some bright "peekaboo" red highlights and loved it. I say do it. (I'm 31).

Early in our marriage, my husband needed new fall shoes. He found a brown pair he liked and I kept trying to get him to also get the black pair. Because, hello. That's just what you DO!!! If you love something then you get it in pretty much every color they make, am I right? Finally, he just said, "No! Quit trying to love me the way you want to be loved." It was pretty stinking funny and actually pretty profound.

Trousers first. Baby steps. Can't wait to hear about Huck's knee. Hope he's on the mend!

And why is it that men buy a single pair of pants and they're already like "this is too much, i simply cannot spend more" WHY AM I MISSING THIS GENE??

And non-disappointing Greek food seems to make everything better! :)

  13. Brandon dresses great. A good combination of relaxed, west coast, GQ. I was already in admiration that you were doing his shopping. Guess not and his $1 shirts look great. Somehow men can get by with that...I bought my husband two shirts (he banned me from ever dressing him) and I was so bummed they sat in his closet for months. Finally he tried them on and then loved them so much he alternated them for a week. I felt successful but don't think I should press my luck.

  14. If you're not talking about Nikos, you surely need to go, as I believe it's in your hood! It was the very first place I ate when I first moved to the city long long ago. After my best friend got married at city hall, we went there for lunch, and I once ate both lunch and dinner there in the same day.

  15. I used this hair color--http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0011V16IW/ref=oh_details_o07_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1-- to give myself a teal streak this summer. I did not bleach my hair, which had recently been dyed red, and I had a great vibrant teal color that washed out over time. Because I'm over 30 and a librarian and the boss of some people, I opted to sye an undersection of my hair--there was natural color over the teal and under. Because of the way my hair is layered, you could still see it. It was fun for summer reading! The YA librarian at my branch had purple-pink tips and they looked amazing.
