SATURDAY . . . AND SUNDAY

happy weekend! and happy st patrick's day.

we managed to avoid just about everything green this weekend. on saturday morning we made it down to the village for a fun (and fa-reezing) shoot with our friends at hunter boots, followed by an attempt at warming-up with some insanely decent waffles at the waverly . . .  i baked me up a little lemon blueberry cake that surprisingly turned out pretty good, despite my best efforts at ruining it (i am channeling my inner anne shirley these days and botching cakes left and right, like a boss) . . . and on sunday we went to church, had the home teachers over, heated up a super random assortment of frozen food for dinner (time to order the groceries!), then took ourselves on a bundled up family walk to the park to get the wiggles out of our toddler (i wore three pairs of pants, seriously. i was still freezing).

here then are a few odds and ends from our cold, cold weekend.
(i only managed to get brandon in ONE shot. you win this time, ginger!)

A QUICK SPONSORED POST W/ LUCKY MAG + VASELINE

lucky magazine asked us to partner up with them to share some of our favorite tips on streamlining our morning routines, in conjunction with vaseline spray & go, a brand new, compressed air body moisturizer (doesn't gunk up between your fingers or in your rings when you apply it--genius).

so, here are my best tricks for speeding up a morning routine:

shower at night // when huck was a newborn i quickly discovered that morning showers were no longer gonna work. i switched to a nighttime shower, after the baby was asleep or once daddy was home to help out. i can't believe i didn't start this one sooner--who wants to wake up twenty minutes early for a shower anyway?

use multitasking beauty products // i prefer to wear bb creams or tinted moisturizers so i have one less product to fuss with. i especially love double duty products like cream blushes that also work as lip color.

have a go-to hair style in your arsenal that doesn't take a lot of time and always looks good // a slouchy pony tail, or maybe a deep side part with a sparkly barrette (trĂ©s trendy right now). sometimes i like to remind myself that the french almost never have perfect hair, and if it's good enough for the french, it's good enough for me.

have a momiform // a momiform is a dumb word for a brilliant idea. it's just an outfit that you can wear multiple days a week because you have enough of the basics on hand at all times, that you always feel put together in. here is mine:

// 1 // 2 // 3 // 4 // 5 // 6

serious game changer, the momiform.

SATURDAY AT THE INTREPID

we enjoyed a beautiful afternoon on saturday at the intrepid sea, air, and space museum. (thank you, ashley!) it was pretty much the only time i got out of the house at all this weekend, on account of i've been on a little bit of a vampire diaries bender?

wandering the exhibits inside the intrepid and seeing the preserved bunks and mess hall was pretty neat, i had no idea how tricked out this museum was. but our favorite part by far was the amazing collection of jets and helicopters up on top. it was nuts to see all these iconic jets from world war I and II set against the manhattan skyline. huck was in heaven. and i could tell the afternoon was pretty special to brandon, too. his dad was in the air force and flew in vietnam. i know brandon appreciated seeing what it was like for the men and their jets that served our country during war time.

i totally had that faith hill song from that pearl harbor movie stuck in my head the whole time.

thank you again for having us, ashley!

and btw--team stefan, all the way. haters to the left.

A PEEK AT OUR WEEKEND

this weekend found brandon and huck on a quest to find a toy rocket. not A toy rocket but THE toy rocket, the toy rocket of all little boys' dreams. huck is a little into rockets these days, so brandon was all, right. let's do this thing.

this epic rocket quest took the boys all over the city saturday morning while i slept like a rock. after hours with no luck they landed at FAO, where we all met up for some giant pianos and finally a rocket! complete with a tiny astronaut man inside. mission accomplished.

and then we had a late brunch with some friends at norma's.

and now you know THE WHOLE STORY.

and many thanks to fifth avenue for being just a little bit snowy and not at all too crazy full of people on saturday. it made our afternoon outing as a family feel like hitting the jackpot.

beeteedubs hat is french toast covered in rice krispies topped with caramel. and maple syrup on the side. and powdered sugar on top. why not! i like to imagine the chefs at the planing meetings when coming up with this dish... "basically we want to give them three topping options, all of them made of straight sugar."

DAY IN THE LIFE // THURSDAY ON FRIDAY EDITION

thursday, february 28
// it's been the rainiest this week. dreary mornings when it's wet outside but warm and cozy inside are kind of my favorite. huck is up at 8AM on the nose. his goofy face in mine first thing in the morning is the perfect alarm clock.
// i make the bed first or else my day is a complete disaster. while i'm in there i finally hang our wooden instagram prints that instathis were so kind to send to us. they'd been sitting on our dresser for three weeks because putting holes in walls makes me nervous. they're up and they look snazzy!
// play dough is our jam these days
// time to refill the salt and pepper shakers! straight up GLAMOUR the life of a home maker.
// this is what huck is up to while i clean the kitchen.
// the rain stops so i text my friend nicole. nicole is my go-to lunch friend, and she tells me she needs an escort to a sample sale in the flatiron after we grab some crepes. duh, nicole.
// abc carpet + home is the best. after a few half-off candles (sample sales are THE BONKERSEST), we wheel up to abc, a place that will always remind me of my mother (we've been coming here together to drool on things since i was 11), so nicole can show me this chair. she and tony are thinking of buying it, she says with a straight face. we can't find it at first so we wind through all six floors till we hunt it down. she plays it totally cool, like "oh, it's just this chair, for the living room . .  . i want your opinion." and then there it is, this purple spinning plastic . . . thing. i have never laughed so quietly and yet so hard in my entire life. then nicole says, "hey want some hot chocolate?" and i'm like . . .  duh nicole.
// by the way, the chocolate donut at balthazar.
// the east side of soho is rather cute. the moma store across from balthazar is rather dangerous (muji!). and the pizza we grab for dinner is rather gross. it's time to head home.
// dude in a prom dress on columbus avenue
// brandon comes home around 8:30 with chicken + french fries from wok city (please, you have to read that as "wok citaaaaaay!" because that's how brandon says it). henny snaps this masterpiece of a photo before he is sent off to bed with a pat on the bum.

*p.s. thank you to Tailor & Stylist for the stripe-y shirt.

i wrote these just now, i think you'll like them:

LASH SERUMS VS FALSE LASHES VS LASH EXTENSIONS
the definitive post of the century (just kidding)

aaaaaand,
(huck is no longer writing his toddler blog.
he's gotten so big and is talking so much, already his story is no longer mine to tell.)
