FROM THE MISCELLANEOUS DRAWER

▲▲▲ i was looking through old photos yesterday, trying to find this one in particular from when huck was fat and delicious for my editors for a book thing, when i came across the saddest photographic evidence of post baby hair loss that probably ever existed. behold! before and after the great exodus. it's like . . . it's like don't fear the baby weight, because that will come off. fear the baby hair. because that comes off too and it's baaaad.

▲▲▲ and here's a photo of the after-after when you get a mom hair cut because it's just so thin and sad and you're like, well what else am i going to do? for whatever reason (seasonal stuff i'm sure) i'm itching to lob it all off again and go for clavicle length. this is a fascinating blog post so far i know, you're really impressed.

▲▲▲ things i have youtubed today, per my two-year-old's request: pirates, rhinos, choo choo trains, choo choo planes. that last one doesn't exist but not for lack of trying.

▲▲▲ i wrote some posts for babble, aaaaaand i'm linking them now: favorite lipsticks for spring, best non-smudge drugstore eyeliner (follow up on the best of all time non-smudge eyeliner to come, no it is NOT from a drugstore), and a forever 21 post too.

we are off to brave the rain for a few errands. it's supposed to thunder all day--i love me a good thunder storm so i am hoping for a good one!

  1. I had to lop off my shoulder length hair post baby. It was so sad, but my hair looked so much better after I did it. We are trying for a second, and thick, lustrous hair is one of the only aspects of pregnancy I'm looking forward to. Well, that and the non-stop eating of pastries without an ounce of regret.

  2. Sooo I didn't notice post partum hair loss (can I now refer to it as PPHL?) so badly with my first but I'm six months post-partum with my second and holy hair loss batman. It makes showers extremely sad-making. I wonder every time whether I am going to have any hair left!! And wow, does Huck look like your husband in that picture!

  3. I actually lost my eyelashes in the great hair shed of 2011. So sad. They grew back to be stumps. They used to be gorgeous. So gorgeous. Now...you can't even tell I have eyelashes.

I love a bob. But I can't go get my hair cut every month. My hair grows like a weed. So...I'm growing it out. I hate it. Hate it. Hate it.

  4. I just lobbed off of my hair to right above my shoulders because, thanks to going brown for a year and then highlighting the heck out of it to get it back to blond, the ends were super damaged. I had plenty of PHCHL(post-hair coloring hair loss) and it was sad. I was nervous, but far less emotional about it then I thought. I LOVE the short cut now. I'm trying to even out the layers I had from before which will take a little bit(I'm not willing to go THAT short) but I love the shoulder-length bob look right now(what I hope to have by the end of the year). I encourage you to do it! It's seriously liberating.

  5. New commenter alert! Eek! I am a 24 yr old girl, not married, no baby, only one friend who actually has baby, still semi-living the college life (I live with THREE 24 year old BOYS) but I love reading your blog. While I didn't know that women lose hair post-baby (my eyes widened in horror), I actually sincerely enjoy reading about your life. I do want kids eventually, and so I need to learn about these things. You have become one of my sources and I love it. You are inspiring, hilarious, very real and I obviously wish we could be friends. Which makes me SO very excited to read your book! That is simply awesome. Congratulations!! And let me know if you ever want a photographer to photograph that cute little chunky boy of yours :)

  6. I'm sitting here pulling out fistful after fistful of hair. I'm going to have to vacuum again today. And I'm going to have to cut my hair too. :( That's how you know you have a 3 month old!

  8. My hair fell out but it really wasn't bad. I'd trade my hair for the post baby weight! That took two years!

  9. sometimes you look like kate beckinsale. even with thin post partum hair. so that's great. xo

  10. You still look good with thinner hair! And I know what you mean about the shorter mum hair bob, I feel like getting that now.

  13. My hair didn't fall out post baby but then again, neither did the baby weight ;) So I guess that's that. I did get back to my pre baby weight eventually, after nine months, reversing the process in the same amount of time it took to make it in the first place.

My vote's for a bob, I think you would look smashing!

  16. Take a look at Julianne Hough's hair, that'll make anyone want a bob. I wouldn't rule it out completely ;)

Ack, the hair loss! I knew it was coming but still, the handfuls in the shower every day were awful! I think it finally stopped after I was weaned by my 6-month old and my hormones got back on track. I can't do a bob, I'll have an afro if I do, but you would also look great in a pixie cut (wouldn't that be a shock!) = )

  19. Is it weird if I say you have the most perfect nose I've ever seen? Seriously though. It's adorable.

  21. oooooh I'm so torn. I love your hair now, but now that the idea of you-in-a-bob has popped into my head, I think that would look Amazing.

  26. Ohhh thank you for the eyeliner reviews!! I was just thinking this morning, I need to find a new eyeliner that doesn't smudge. Can't wait to read your other one.

  27. i recently put together a montage of photos of my daughter's first year and after sobbing at how my little girl has grown so fast {tears of happiness mostly} i then started to long for pregnancy hair. post-pregnancy hair is the WORST but pregnancy hair with all those hormones making it shiny and full are amazing. *sigh*

  28. You should do the bob! You're an extension weave pro, so who cares if it's short? missmagnoliavintage.etsy.com

  29. Almay's liners (albeit pencils) are quite good in quick fix situations! WAY CHEAP too. They also don't smudge AT ALL, which is great if you suffer from seasonal allergies. Just got to throw that out there ;)

  31. Natalie. I've gotta tell you how much I LOVE your blog. I've been reading it for a few months now and it always makes me happy and smile. I love how much you love your hubby and everytime after I read it I vow to treat my hubby the way you do. Please never stop blogging. Your blog is like sunshine in my life. Thanks for sharing the gospel via your blog as well through quick links and comments. I think that's the best way to do it. Great job on being an amazing person! Hugs, Nelda : )

  34. Okay. I'm sorry, what I'm about to write is unrelated to this post BUT: thank you. I've been going through a rather rough time lately. Things haven't been happening in the baby making department [FOR A YEAR!] and I'm so far from family + close friends and job things and BLAH BLAH BLAH. And as I was reading your blog the other day, I heard myself laugh. And just...thank you. And I've heard a few friends share similar sentiments. You've been like a life jacket lately and you didn't have any idea so I had to stop by and let you know. [Also, I just envisioned you as a life jacket and it's kind of hilarious. Try it. Har har.]

Probably it looks very shocking to you, but I actually hardly notice a difference. When my hair started falling out post-baby I was completely traumatized. I thought I was going to go bald! Thank god my dermatologist was able to sort it out with 6 weeks of vitamin shots. Phew!
