NAMASTE, HUCKLES

i had plans last week to attend the summer solstice in times square yoga madness, a free yoga class held in the middle of times square, but then surprise mystery viruses struck, as they do, and i happily stayed in to spend the day kissing a fevery forehead instead. of course i'd already ordered and rush-shipped a cheap yoga mat to myself through amazon, and of course as i clicked "one-day shipping" at the check out i heard my shoulder devil tell me that now that i'd ordered a yoga mat for the event, i for sure wasn't going to be able to make it.

as is often the case.

i've missed doing yoga. i used to practice in idaho and then got pregnant and put the mat in storage and there's that whole story. i unwrapped that sucker the other night and laid it out to see how many poses i could remember, and while i may be a little rusty, huck is a natural.

p.s. i posted one of these shots to instagram the other night and it was later brought to my attention that the way my flag was hung at the time was incorrect. i have since researched the matter and remedied the situation.

  2. Ohmygosh. This is the cutest! Love how Huck is copying all those poses. Adorable. Also, I think the flag looks great. Like you'd actually intentionally try to be disrespectful. Geesh. Some haters just gotta hate sometimes. PS your blog is bomb. By far the best in all the blogging land.

  8. You should go to a mummy and me yoga class! I suggested it to my cousin but she was wary of doing poses worshipping the sun god considering that her God says that worshipping anyone other than him is a no no. I was all "um...it's a really good workout?" !!!

  22. Haters going to hate and get their panties in knots. It's your personal relationship with your country and you hang that flag how you please!

    1. I don't think it's "hating" or getting one's "panties in knots" to simply point out that there are specific guidelines for the hanging of the American flag, and that to not hang it within those guidelines is considered disrespectful.

    2. Yeah, I agree with Kate. Surely no one thought she was doing it purposefully, but I think we can all benefit from being educated on these things (I had no idea!).

  23. Oh, you two. So sweet.

Whenever I try to do yoga in my living room, my three-legged Golden Retriever is always right there trying to soak up my attention. Plank? Only if I want a dog in my face. Downward dog? My dog slides down right under, with puppydog eyes begging for some pets. :)

  24. I feel like I am forever a yoga beginner. I'll get all gussied up with yoga gear and go to a class only to be not-so-gently reminded that I am neither flexible nor coordinated. And then I'm sore alllll over, in that glorious way that yoga makes you sore and I'm like, "I'm gonna start doing this regularly. It's going to be my thing." And then I don't go for another 3 months. Please tell me I'm not the only one who breathes a sigh of "hallelujah" whenever we get to go to child's pose?? Also yoga always reminds me that I need a pedicure.

  42. Aww, very cute! Love that your son is doing yoga with you!
I read what you said about the Flag, it's funny, I was looking at it like that on the wall and thought it was a cool way to hang it...but I guess some people think it's offensive. But I think you should hang your flag any way you want!

  45. First of all -- I am a blog fan and Chuck Patton's sister. :)
I was in Portland over the weekend and my niece said "I saw a pin of yours on Pinterest from a girl in my ward." I asked who it was (never thinking I'd make the connection) and she said, "Nat the Fat Rat".
Chuck was talking to your brother after the dance festival in Salem. I had no idea you were from their town (well, they just moved to S-wood).
Anyway, all this is to say that I love your blog and it's a small world after all.
