GET ME DRESSED // 003

who doesn't love jeans and a sweatshirt! except these aren't jeans, they're leggings. at this point everybody loves leggings, but i have real passionate feelings about them. i love these Chino Leggings from No nonsense too. they have the look of traditional pants, with faux pockets and everything, but the comfortable stretchy fabric is all legging. it's good to mix it up a bit with color too, stray from the traditional black and try a good pop of red, especially around the holidays. and these are a great warm red. do you remember back when celebrities started wearing leggings and everyone was all, "leggings aren't pants! you can't leave the house in just leggings as pants!" ?? and aren't you glad that's all over and we can all wear leggings as pants now in peace and quiet? american freedoms and such?

one of the first things you'll notice about new york in the winter is all the leggings and riding boots. all the girls wear leggings and riding boots. it's practically a required uniform. the leggings keep you warm, they're comfortable, and the boots dress it up a bit but let's be honest, who cares? i just feel like, especially as a mom in the city, when you're running around and pushing your stroller and lugging  the groceries and then carrying it all up the subway stairs when the elevators are out, you just need the most comfortable clothing that exists in the world but that doesn't look like yoga pants and a tee shirt. being a mom in the city is a work out. so, chino leggings and a sweatshirt. you can even get them at Walmart or the drugstore while you're out running your errands. genius. add some ass-kicker boots and a really great watch and you're ready for whatever.

p.s. my watch is made of bamboo and it essentially weighs two pounds less than nothing. it's enormous and i love it.
p.p.s. it was really windy out.

  1. i'm all for the leggings as pants movement. (especially when massively pregnant!) comfy, cute, and affordable. can't get much better than that.

  2. Love the festive leggings. Back when I was wound too tight I would have deep debates with myself that went like this: "but Patience, are leggings modest? they are definitely not modest. i want to wear them though.... but they are not modest!" Maybe lengthy discussions with my sister even arose out of it- I can't quite remember, too funny. Love the look. And thanks for the tip on the 'stylish and affordable legwear' ;)!!

  13. I was thinking about you on the way home. (Which, now that I write that, sounds creepy, but I'll just keep writing.) Anyway, I'm a teacher. Today we were celebrating Hanukkah in class and one of the kids asked me if I was Jewish. I'm not, and neither is my husband, but we were lucky enough to have a rabbi perform our marriage ceremony. (Now, try explaining that to seven-year olds!) So I was thinking about you and your Instagram post from the other day and now so many people said so many nasty things on my way home today. The internet has been a really cruel place lately. Especially lately. And then on Twitter, I saw your tweets about more mean things being said and it just made me sad. So I just wanted to say that I really enjoy reading your blog. I love seeing pictures of your adorable son. Thank you for continuing to put yourself out there even though people are mean and say mean things. And I'm sorry that I never comment here, even though I read every one of your posts. I'll work on that.

  15. I want to grab a pair of the leggings but I wanted to check on the fit first? I'm 5'7 and a size 4 most of the time but sometimes a 6. I have a booty for sure though. I assume you're wearing the small. How would you say they run?

  16. I live in leggings. I think the key to wearing them is to make sure your shirt is an appropriate length if the leggings do not have zippers in the front like real pants. You pull it off flawlessly :)

  17. I love that these leggings are affordable and cute! I'm getting a pair today! Also, as long as they are not see though, leggings are totally appropriate as pants!

  18. So, I've never, ever, ever! bought anything by clicking a link on a blog. But today was the day. I loved your red leggings (pants!), and I just bought them. I have to say... I'm happy to click and buy from your blog because I've loved reading it over the past year, and I think you deserve all the support in the world!

  19. hi natalie! would you be willing to share which size leggings you're wearing in these pictures for reference? would you say they run true to size? i've never ordered from no nonsense before but i'd like to. thanks!

    1. hi carlie! they seem to run pretty true to size. i'm actually wearing a medium in this because of a little mishap in shipping, so these roomier than what i'd normally go for in a pair of leggings, but they still work! they're cut really well, so there seems to be a bit of wiggle room in the sizing.

  20. I don't care if this post is sponsored or not, I want to try some of these leggings. And I think I will wear them on a walk with my baby or my dog so I can parade them in front of my next door neighbor's house who updated her status the other day that leggings were not in fact pants. I am all for the leggings as pants, but apparently still a topic of debate at least in Utah, but we all know Utah is quite a few years behind on things.

  21. Ha, that is so true about the former stance on leggings!

As a big bootie lady, I just finally figured out how to appropriately rock the leggings look. However, now I am terrified of the day where they are no longer acceptable.

  22. Hi,

I found lots of favorites things in this blog. All are my choice and the searching things. So it's given me lots of pleasure. All of your collections are more bridal and more fancy. We have also different collection of Fashion Tights for Women, if you want to know about it then, explore our website for the details.

  23. Nope, leggings are still not pants for me, sorry! ;)

I will admit that this outfit is pretty cute, but I am definitely not willing to accept that leggings are pants as any sort of general rule. I have a feeling that people who took this rule to an extreme will greatly regret it in 10 years, just as those who did it in the 80s did.
