LET'S TALK ABOUT / LEATHER JACKETS

have you seen that seasons pie chart that's floating around the internet? it always makes me laugh. it's so sad, and true, and here you are left cramming an entire season's worth of clothes into just two weeks or so. it's brutal. it seems to me like there are only two very small windows of time in which one can reasonably pull off wearing just a leather jacket without freezing to death or else roasting your brains out, and those windows happen to be now, and early fall. this according to my foolproof opinion. and, according to my calculations, we're here! this is it!

a leather biker jacket is suuuuch a good way to make the transition between winter and spring. with a sundress is my favorite way to go, but they also pair perfectly with florals, simple tee shirts, bare ankles, birkenstocks...

a few of my favorite looks:

this is the leather jacket i finally picked for myself after a rather quixotic quest last year. this one is really, great too. h&m has a great basic faux leather option. and zara! is killing it with their leather jackets right now (zara always kills it, with everything, all the time, so i'm not allowed in there anymore). here are a few that i really love: one | two | three | four | five | six. (to see more even leather jackets i love, check it here.)

what's your favorite season transition trick? are you swapping out your A/W for your S/S yet? it's on my to-do list, right after finish my edits and catch up on pretty little liars, because i have my priorities in check. do you think aria is A? have you seen this? i'm totally on board with aria as A.

  1. I like to ditch the opaque tights around this time of year, even if it's still a bit cold, and wear midi and maxi skirts with long sleeves, scarves and layers up top! Like this (strategic blog plug): http://www.catherinesprunt.com/2014/03/bare-legs-for-spring.html

  2. OMG, yes! I've had a really lovely dark brown leather jacket for years, but feel like I barely get to wear it, as you say, because it's either too warm or too cold - or my fear, it MIGHT rain, so I don't want to risk ruining it. So this season, I scored a black biker faux version from H&M for 20€! So now I don't really worry about getting it soaked or stretching it out with bulky sweaters beneath it. And I always have the real deal one for those four days a year when it's appropriate.

I'm taking major notes from that look with the sunnies and the coffee, it's so good, not mention drooling over that first mixed fabric version at the top. Thanks for the inspiration!

  5. I'm obsessed with wearing my leather jacket over a black & floral dress with my leather booties. It's such a fun mix of girly-meets-rock 'n' roll! :)

  6. if aria (or any of the liars for that matter) is A i'm going to lose it. i've put too much time and effort into this teeny bopper show to be played like that ;)

  7. I've had my Zara leather jacket for years and I never tire of it! I love to wear it over billowing, pastel dresses.

In other news - question - can anyone actually rock around with their jacket only on their shoulders like the models in the bottom two pictures?! I love that look but can't seem to actually make it work!!

  8. So much yes to all of those looks. I'm a wimp, so it's still not warm enough in MA for my leather jacket to come out and play, but we are so close! (We have to be so close, right?!)

Also, I am sticking with the theory that Allison has a crazy twin sister and she's A.

  11. I am completely in love with my leather jacket, I actually happen to be wearing it right now ha. Its from H&M and I initially bought it because I had a crush on a hot guy (now my hot husband) who had a motorcycle. It's probably my best wardrobe purchase of my life. I'm lucky that I live in sunny Arizona so it has been my go to jacket all winter!

  13. OH gosh I have been searching for one FOREVER NOW, for real, I have a long torso so most of them look like a crop and makes me look like a weirdo. I LOVE these! Hopefully soon I find one here in a German flea market or something.

  14. Well look. Every time I go into Zara I try one on and every time I am disappointed because I just look like a real chump when attempting to look cool in a leather jacket. I just can't do it. It's my greatest disappointment in life because i LOVE THE LOOK SO MUCH but it just screams 'take that off right now what are you doing' when I wear them. Woe.

  31. Marlon Brando encapsulated the cowhide bike coat when he showed up in the 1953 motion picture "The Wild One" around two adversary cruiser packs. From that point forward, calfskin coats got to be synonymous with bikes. mc-jakke
