  1. Glad you and your little family are safe! Love Huck's boots and that picture of him in his snow gear with NYC as a backdrop- super cool.

  3. Oy. Hang in there!! This week is over, thankfully! Glad you're able to feel grateful in the midst of such a shitty week. We have our little boys, and they ALWAYS make it better (especially when they're sleeping and we get to stare at blank walls and think about things that have nothing to do with anything). : )

p.s. THIS: "so thanks for being a little hard on me this week, week. i think i showed you what's what. and where you can stick it." #Tookthewordsoutofmymouth

  4. Love your outlook! Sometimes it's rough out there and its tough to stay positive.

Also LOVED your face brush video (for lack of a better description). Adorable. And now you've got me adding a Clarisonic to my Christmas list :)

  5. Oh gosh, Huck's little mitten clips, my heart SWOONS.
Glad you showed this week what's up. Sometimes you just gotta shake your fist at the world and that is just that.
Go enjoy that pedicure Natalie!!! You deserve it

  6. I feel the same way about this week, Natalie. Politics brings out the worst in people. Everyone has their own personal reasons for voting whichever way they'd like and it has to be respected. Major props to you for being open and honest about who you voted for especially since most people probably assumed who you were voting for. We women need to stick together!! Not attack and bring each other down- way to show 'em!

By the by, is that the plaid-lined infinity scarf from madewell? I've had my eye on it for weeks...

  7. i agree!! for SOME hair, day 5 is the best hair day... i used to have a perm (don't judge, my i-hate-my-flat-thin-fine-hair brian loved the volume and curly awesomeness) and day 1 was the WORST! wouldn't do a darn thing, but each day it grew some more sexiness. people commented on it until i told them when i had washed my hair, that totally grossed out those 16-year-old girls i called my friends. i think now they would agree with me though!

totally a fan of the great beauty experiment :)

  8. I'm a newcomer to your blog, and despite the fact that I'm positive you've been told this so many, many times before, I still feel the need to tell you: I think it's grand; your writing is sentimental and authentic, your little one is scrumptious, and... suffice it to say, I'll be sticking around.

  9. Natalie,
I just wanted to tell you how wonderful it is to read your blog everyday! I really respect your openness, passion, and genuine positive outlook on life! Thank you for sharing your world with me! For the record, you and the adorable photos of Huck truly brighten my day when I have a week like you just had!
    Thank you,

  10. That Diptyque Baies candle is the most beautiful thing I've ever smelt. Someone bought me one for a gift once (I'd never spend that much myself on a candle) and I loved every second it burned. And then I went and bought the perfume of the same smell 'L'Ombre dans l'eau' and I get compliments every time I wear it!!

  11. I like you more and more each post and I already love everything you write and aim that iphone camera at. Also, yeah for being a fan of women's rights (in 2012..sheesh) and for less hair washing. Although I can only go three days, then it looks like a rat got in there. I recently cut back on the dry shampoo and I could actually keep my hair going longer because there was less buildup and stickiness. Oh yeah!

  13. I hated talking to everybody this week, because it was all politics and they did not agree with me. Then I saw you standing up for your (my) opinions on the twitter and I was all "She is my role model." Also, thank you for telling us all about the clarisonic face brushes. I was wondering about those guys.

  14. Good luck with Your experiment, is worth It=)
I am not washing my hair with a shampoo for almost two years now and it realy works. My hair are not any more oily, are easy to prepare, are stronger, with lovely shiny structure. I am using the baking soda home shampoo once a time to remove the powder-dirt from the skin of my head, after apple vinegar as a conditioner after the shampoo, sometimes a body cream, or jojoba oil to make them more soft - because I am living in Sicily, in summer so dry. I have decided for this option because for the hate of chemicals and not useful plastic bottels and like an experiment. There is nothing like a bad smell, just after You visit a pub, bar or something and You hair get the smoky smell, just wash them with the vinegar, it will smell again lovely.

  18. I think divided households are so funny! My husband and I always vote opposite as well. I complain that he cancels out my vote. I will say it was a little fun to have my guy win and his guy lose. ;)

  19. SO weird about the window...i would have been freaked out! it's good there are security tapes to review! i think it's great you and brandon can agree to disagree when it comes to voting. we both voted the same way in our house, and kept our streak of voting for winners going too! ;) go get that pedicure, you deserve it!

  20. Loved your video review of the face brushes! You are so adorable. Hope you week gets better!

  21. Oh man, even though your photos are bright and cheerful and sweet, I got a whiff of Paranormal Activity with the whole "the window just opened" thing. *shudder*

That silliness aside, hoorah for gratitude trumping a hard week! Your Huck is super rad, just like his Ma. :D

  22. thanks for standing up for yourself and for what YOU believe in. i have the upmost respect for that, and you. we are all entitled to our own opinions and beliefs and i admire how you believe in things even if you stand out in a crowd. you rock girl.

  23. That window opening on its own is creepy! I'm glad it turned out to be nothing more than that, though. (Unless you have ghosts. And ghosts aren't cool.) ;) Anyway, you have a plethora of photos here that really chronicle your time! And even though you've been busy, it's good to hear that you're still positive. I love reading happy and HONEST posts like this, so thank you for sharing. I also read about not washing your hair ... interesting. I actually have tried it a few times, but it never looks good for me. Seriously. IT IS SO OILY. The longer I go without washing, the more oily it gets. Then my face breaks out. And my head itches. Three days in and I'm itching like crazy. For me, Day Two remains the best day. On Day Three? OILY and GREASY AND FLAT. I wish I could go longer but experience tells me I'm not a fan.

  26. So cute! I love the obnoxious texts to your hubby! So funny when you and your partner are opposite when it comes to politics. My dad is Republican and my mom is a democrat, although I didn't know for years that my dad was a republican.

  28. SURIOUSLY. Where are those nail stickers from? I even looked at the Sally Hansen patterns online just now, and they don't seem to be from there! Please enlighten us! (Also, loving all your posts recently, including but not limited to the Clarisonic review. I have been on the fence for aaaaaages. But no longer!)

  30. SO refreshing! I love when people exercise their agency and don't give two hoots to what others think! It felt like so many Mormons supported Romney because of his religion; it felt like opinions were tainted!

  31. You should write a post about having a different political party to your partner. There was a wonderful This American Life podcast the week before the elections that talked a lot about how now people have trouble being harmonious with friends/families who support a different party to them. Would love to hear your take/thoughts/insights on it!

  32. I absolutely adore you, Natalie. You've changed my life and you feel like such a great friend. That sounds creepy, but I'm sure you get it all the time. I NEED to know what brand those boots are!!! Please! I've been looking everywhere and can't seem to find perfect ones for my little Gus...these look pretty perfect. Thanks!

  33. This past week was hard with the election. My hubs and I were also on dividing lines. Everyone else was busy posting hateful statuses on Facebook to those that didn't believe what they did. It was crazy! But thankfully it's over and we can move on and focus on everything else that's going. on. Like Thanksgiving coming soon. And Christmas coming really soon too. And oh, the amazingness of both.

Love your blog by the way. It's very honest, which I certainly value.

  36. Yay for not washing hair your hair and voting for Obama! Also, have you looked into the baking soda and apple cider vinegar instead of shampoo and conditioner thing? It's actually amazing after the first few weeks and my hair is way curlier and never ever greasy.

  37. Wonderful wonderful wonderful post Natalie. I think this post summarizes so much of what I absolutely love about reading your blog every day. You are so honest and strong and just plain relatable. Love.

  41. Yeah, you can go a week without washing your hair if it's anything but BABY HAIR. Like mine. Too fine, soft, healthy, straight, flat. Just gets oiled down and greasy. Dry shampoo makes it dirtier for me! BOO HISS.

  42. Not gonna lie ... bummed you voted for Oh bummer. A healthy economy is crucial to the survival of our country. Larger countries than ours have fallen with economies that were as unstable as ours is now.

  43. I realize I'm not your target audience, being a 52 year old grandmother, but I had to let you know the photo of your son watching Peter Pan brought back so many sweet memories. It seems like it was just yesterday that my own son, now 23 and on his own in Chicago, was standing in front of the tv just as immersed in the movie as yours. I'm surprised I can't recite it verbatim! There was even a time when he would walk around the house calling people "scurvy brats", I think he was 3 at the time. Love your blog, found it through The Daily Muse while I was doing a search for NY blogs. Anyway, thanks for the memories.

  44. Aw, so jealous of all the snow everyone has been getting as of late. That last shot with the skyline in the back is just perfect! And you can never go wrong with a little Peter Pan ;)

  45. Loved this post. I think we're on the same page, maybe not, I wrote a blog post about being true to my ideals politically and was worried people would get all crazy on me and I have had many people thank me, saying they felt the same. (It was later everyone went crazy on Facebook. Wow. Totally crazy.) Thanks for sharing your life with us.

  46. Oops, linked to the wrong blog! Lol. I wrote a post titled "How a Good Mormon Girl Became a Democrat" (above) and got more hits than I ever have had ever in my life. (probably about as many as you get in 2 mins, but hey) People surprised me by being really super nice(some not so nice on Facebook later, but hey).
