DUMBO

over the weekend we took advantage of a supremely gorgeous sunny saturday afternoon and walked across the brooklyn bridge for an afternoon in DUMBO. how many times lately have we been to brooklyn, it's getting silly.

DUMBO stands for Down Under The Manhattan Bridge Overpass, and it's the sliver of neighborhood under the manhattan bridge between brooklyn heights and downtown brooklyn. it's just a handful of streets, and when DUMBO first started "gentrifying" we were living in brooklyn heights just a few blocks up. we used to always scoff at how silly it sounded and "oh, that'll never take off" and then there you have it. shows what we know.

△△△ I CAN'T GET OVER THIS. for the record, huck is drinking water.

△△△ in one of our grander parenting moments, we've been teaching huck the official ins and outs of flashing the peace sign at situationally appropriate moments. i've also been trying to get him to say "you got it, dude!" for weeks but that one hasn't stuck.

△△△ would you just . . . ugh. i'm going to have to eat him he's so cute.

△△△ those are mine! what a world.

△△△ the other day i was talking to a friend who has twin baby boys. she was telling me, "i don't care if their individual personalities are squashed, i just want them to wear matching smocked bubble suits, okay?" and i know what she means. i just want huck to grow up to be the buster to my lucille, is there really something so wrong with that? and the thing is . . . . yes there is. anyway. this made me laugh.

the end.

oh! except to say . . . if you're watching season four of arrested development on netflix, it only gets really good in the last two episodes and then you are just left hanging like a motherboy ball. anyway my eternal crush on buster bluth just keeps on getting stronger.

the official holbrooklyn tour, for those in need,
the tourists tour of nyc i posted once a million years ago,
and two random babble posts i forgot to link last week on account of forgetfulness:

happy tuesday!

my dress is forever 21
my shoes are kork-ease,

  3. I too am a water tower floozy! Love them! Their whole look seems so out-of-place amidst the Manhattan backdrop, but yet I couldn't imagine the city without them.

  8. ha! i was mightily mightily disappointed in this "fourth" season of AD. i personally thought it could have used a whole lot more Buster Bluth because he was the best part of the show, am i right? yes, i am. where was Buster?? oh well. love this post.

  12. the only thing that makes this blog post better is that i'm actually watching arrested development as i read this! best reference ever! and for the record, i expect my own 18 month old boy to become the buster to my lucille, too. is there really anything so wrong with that???

  21. Oh my! The Ice Cream Factory...the BEST moment ever when I came to NYC.
Yes it was in late October, it was raining but hey, who cares?
ICE CREAM FACTORY, I miss you. Do you want to open a store in France? Please?

And about DUMBO...incredible development. I saw a real difference when I came back here 2 years ago, after 1 year and a half. So much more cafes, bookshop, trendy shops!
I miss Loopy Mango, it used to be here but now it's in SOHO :(

Thank you for making mini trips around your city, it makes me travel a little :)
    Have a nice day!

Him on the bench with the ice cream is one of the cutest photos ever. You are a very lucky lady.

  24. I'm going to guess your changing the Holbrook Brooklyn Tour to the Holbrooklyn Tour was not in response to my suggestion via a comment last month BUT, I'm delusional enough to think that that IS the reason you did it and I'm now squeeing with squeeful glee. weeew!

  25. amen on AD. i didn't laugh out loud until lucille's episode but no real, AD-induced laughter until buster's. buster!

  28. Cracking up. You do make the best cultural references. To this day I imagine cheesy theme music in the background every time I hug my family and I was convinced that danny tanner was my real dad.

  29. Can you please observe how that neurotic carousel horse also looks like it is posing/smiling for the photos and staring right into the camera????!

  30. a.) Buster is clearly the best one
b.) your Kork-Ease sandals have re-affirmed that my own Kork-Ease purchase was totally the right choice.

(but seriously...your blog is awesome. you make me both giggle and cry on a regular basis, which are both very important things.)

    thanks, dude!

  31. I'm trying SO hard to get into season 4 - I loved the first three seasons and now every night I have an internal battle with watching another episode. Hopefully it does get better and the best part about AD is that I cannot name one favorite character but Michael, Buster and Gob are the top 3 obv

  41. Okay... So I never really comment on blogs because I don't really read many often. And I've been thinking about responding since last night when I first started reading your blog. I woke up and was like... What the heck. I'll comment, Weird. Anyway... Lately I've read a few of the popular Mormon mommy blogs (I'm LDS) and they are all wonderful and beautiful and fun. But, I left those blogs feeling like I just wasn't enough! Not cute enough. I wasn't creative enough. (Oh look, my 8 month old little man just chewed up a sticker as I wrote that last sentence..) I love how honest you are! About the good and bad! I was like, man, I need a friend like this! So please keep it up. You're doing a good thing here.

And I love all the fun things you do in the city. We go up there a lot and I'm always looking for something else to try out.

    Ps. Two words: brow envy.

  43. After 10 years in NYC, I finally went to the Brooklyn Bridge (about a month ago). OMG! It's crowded with tourists! Man... worse than a night club. I was a bit annoyed, I must admit. But I still want to go there again - it's a lovely sight.

Ooh, Arrested Development. I love Arrested Development, although, I was pretty disappointed with the early episodes of this new season. I've just finished Tobias' episode, and that was actually pretty good, so along with your endorsement of the latter part of the season, I'm feeling pretty hopeful :)
