CHRISTMAS IN BROOKLYN

every christmas has to have a santa fiasco, is what. it's a rite of passage. it went way too smoothly at the plaza, we needed some more shrieks up in here to really get it right. we got an invite over the weekend to visit santa in fort greene with some friends, and you know, since we collect santa visit photos, we had to go. (no joke, one of my girlfriends is collecting santa visit photos with her twin boys. i think she's up to five? it's awesome.) the space was amazing, it was a total winter wonderland over at habana outpost in fort greene. the santa backdrop was perfectly zany. and the whole thing was a total mess, it was pretty fantastic. there were many decibels of distress coming from our group. river was upset, biet was upset, huck was kind of amused by it all but didn't exactly cozy up to santa, either... which is too bad because he really was a sweet santa. and his team of elves at the camera station were ON TOP OF THINGS. they were practically art directing us. "stand this way! now, straighten your shirt!" i need more of that in my life in general, i think.

speaking of the habana outpost. it was done up in there exactly the way my husband always wishes i'd do our place at christmas time. it was the chintziest. i'm totally seeing the vision, b. it's brilliant. next year! promise.

this is what all of our shots looked like, more or less. poor river! poor latonya! poor santa! but isn't it kind of satisfying though? disastrous santa encounters sort of hit a certain spot as a parent that somehow always feels really right to me. i don't know, call me crazy, but THIS last year was pretty spectacular.

poor henny and his botched hair cut. another rite of passage i guess? sorry, dude.

mom chaos. santa and his elves must buy aspirin in bulk.

we gave it our best shot. it was a disaster. it all went kind of perfectly. thanks for having us, brooklyn!

p.s. comandante biggie

take us out, huck.

  9. Ugh, I'm jealous of all the Santa seeing options. Round these parts it's all malls and Country Club brunches, and they're all the same. Do you have to buy pics at every one too?
I think the haircut is cute! I can't figure out what's botched!

And I love this idea of collecting Santa pictures! I'll have to remember that one once I have a tiny one. But I guess what better time then to start now with the hubby to start the tradition off right ;)

  14. Oh man, I wish we could have a Santa photo debacle, but Santa only hangs out at the mall here and I'm not willing to enter the mall in June let alone December! Also, can we please have a moment for that Peter Pan collar? On. Point.
