HUCK THE PHOTOGRAPHER / 003

huck's been having himself a creative explosion in the last few weeks. marshmallow animals, footprint turkeys, tissue paper butterflies... the man is terribly prolific and i am the proud owner of an entire basket full of original pieces. this afternoon he asked for the camera. and here it is! i am so proud to submit huck's third professional photography exhibit.

serious artists don't call them selfies, they're self portraits. ;) (we've been battling eczema this week, that's what you're seeing on his cheeks. it always flares up when his immune system takes a hit, this week it's been a little cold. boo. aquaphor + cortisol is what usually works for us, this bout's just been a bit more persistent. isn't eczema fun?)

such vision! such genius!
p.s. huck's first two exhibits are here and here. :)

  1. Clearly an artistic prodigy! Battling eczema is literally the worst, I am feeling for poor Huck. Probiotics have really helped my girl's worst flare ups.

    3. I use a powdered form, and mix it into her food, like applesauce. Our brand is Udo's Infant Blend, easily found at Whole Foods, but they have a lot of different kinds available.

  3. Okay, that first photo of you looks like a print you would pull out a photo album (a la birthday party or family dinner) and I loooove it for that reason. Also, I've heard some people say they've had luck with coconut oil for eczema, though I don't have experience with that purpose myself.

  8. Cute pics...it seems like my son Noah carries a bit of the skills Huck does when it comes to taking pics on an iphone. Teach them young, and eventually will become great photographers. Take care!

  10. After reading this, and failing to find my own perfect tee, I just purchased 2 Everlane tees. I've been meaning to do it for some time now.

  11. I also constantly battle eczema...mine is very food related. In fact allergies and eczema go hand in hand. I'd get him tested for allergies (for me its tomatoes and citrus and wool). Also, I read that almonds are really good for skin and I have upped my intake of almonds this winter and it has really helped (raw almonds and almond milk are my 2 big sources).

  12. His photos make me happy and I love how warm your place feels just looking at those photos. Very cozy. Also, your hair is on point! Looking lovely, Natalie.

  13. I love seeing little bits + pieces of your apartment. It looks so cozy. Huck has *quite* the eye for angles and lighting ;)

Can we talk about your hair for a minute? It's looking GOOD.

  15. I battled ezcema as a child, and now again as an adult. Gotta love when those things come back around! ;) Anyway, this stuff is a life saver. Just a little bit on in the morning and evening, and the breakout goes away quickly.

  16. I've never commented on your blog, though enjoy from afar. My mom makes a salve that has worked wonders on LOTS of peeps with eczema (including the Dali Lama . . . no joke!) You can see it profiled here (http://www.designmom.com/?s=lee+bennion) on Design Mom, and check out her website here (http://momsstuffsalve.com/wordpress/). If you are interested I'd be happy to send you some to try out. It is the windex of our family, it works on everything (cuts, bites, blemishes and my husband uses it as really good smelling hair product). Email me and I'll send you a free jar. -Zina

  19. something about the two shots the wee huck got of you have something of a vintage quality about them. perhaps the flash? they make me think of the pictures of my mom when i was young that i go back to and admire year after year.

  20. My son battled intense eczema since he was born. I literally put NOTHING on his skin for two years (except water). Still, his poor little cheeks would crack and bleed. It was awful. Doctors were no help. One day, I happened to wash his really dirty face with a free sample of a Clinique sensitive skin soap I had. IT CLEARED HIS FACE UP. I am not even kidding. I don't know if there's something in it that helps him or something that isn't in it, but that soap saved my sweet son's little face. Believe me, I've been there with everyone saying try this, try that. I tried it all. And I don't know why this worked on him. But his face, and between his toes, and his armpits were clear from that day on once we started using that on him. Shrugs shoulders at the oddball ways life unfolds :)

  22. oh man having eczema as a child is awful… I used to have to have my little hands bandaged up every spring when I had a flare up. lukewarm water soaks every other day and aquaphor… finally grew out of it as an adult by not using too hot of water and LOTION LOTION LOTION as soon as I get out of the bath/shower… like slathering vaseline. Poor poor buck, hope he gets better and keeps with photography

  23. Great natural recipe for eczema: 1/2 cup coconut oil, 10 drops Tree Tea Oil; 10 drops Lavender; 10 drops Lemon Eucalyptus; 20 drops of Purification Essential Oil Blend. My husband suffers from it, especially in the Winter. Hope this helps our little budding artist.

  24. My brother would get eczema when he was little. Turns out it was a corn allergy. I second the comment about diet ^^ It's amazing what a natural diet will do for a person. I've cut sugar, dairy, and wheat out of my diet, and it looks like my seasonal allergies have disappeared! Best of luck.

  25. My mini photographer is 5, but we don't let him use the good camera. He uses this: http://www.amazon.com/Playskool-Showcam-Digital-Camera-Projector/dp/B00AWNUHB2/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1396616740&sr=8-3&keywords=kids+camera (I got it way cheaper before xmas). Super fun! BTW, I might need to borrow your initials on the wall idea. LOVE that. The ampersands make it.

  26. Huck's becoming quite the budding photographer; you look gorgeous in the picture of you! My two oldest children struggle with eczema - it sucks! We've found that coconut oil baths helps a lot. So does rubbing a bit of melaleuca and frankincense on the feet when they go bed. Hope it clears up soon!

  27. A little late to the suggestion party but Cerave works wonders on my babe's eczema (and mine and my husband's cracked Wester NY winter hands). Hope Huck is doing well!

  28. Looks like you've got quite the artist on your hands! But seriously, I love getting the chance to see the world through Huck's (or any child's) eyes. There's so much everyday magic we grown-ups miss. (;
