RED ADMIRALS IN THE CITY AND HAPPY WEEKEND

my friend ashley wrote about the bumper crop of butterflies swarming manhattan on her blog (apparently thanks to an impressive amount of caterpillars coming from texas this year), and ever since i've been so delighted whenever i've been able to spot one. they really are everywhere. this little red admiral was found on west fourth, perched on a little artwork propped up on the street for sale. the artist said they were bringing him good luck. he'd sold more pieces that day than any other day before. they are just the happiest little bits of joy. every time i see one i like to make a little wish.

i have yet to see one on the subway on its way to bloomingdale's to buy a hat, but you better believe i am holding out hope!

HERE ARE SOME THINGS I'VE ENJOYED THIS WEEK:

those blair kids are just the sweetest. their new olive us film series is adorable.
this post is a little older, but it's stayed with me all these weeks since.
and a reader emailed to see if any one could help her with a sick rescue kitty named sylvester. she's unable to keep him and he needs some surgeries and a very loving home. if you can help donate to the surgery fund or if you know of someone in the leesburg, va area who could give him a home, please email her at sarafabuleux@aol.com.

(p.s. our giveaway winners have been announced HERE.)

  1. I'm up in Connecticut and the butterflies are all over here, too. My kids are going crazy. So sweet to see how excited they get over the things.

  2. If you go visit the Cloisters/Fort Tryon Park uptown, there are swarms of butterflies in the Heather Gardens (and great photo opportunities as well!)

  8. Natalie! Thank you for posting the link to the bubble necklace! Not only do I love them, but I have a friend back in Moscow who would absolutely die for the turquoise one. I'm flying back to Moscow on Tuesday to attend Tiffany's wedding on the 26th (did you know she's getting remarried?). Anyway, she asks about you from time to time. I told her you have this crazy successful blog, but don't know if she's checked it out yet. =) BTW - we still have the cherry chip cake mix at our store here, if you want some just give me the word and I'll ship it out!

  9. This cracked me up! I was purchasing a hat today and I told my husband that I hope it doesn't turn out to be a mistake...just like the butterfly on it's way to Bloomingdales. :)

  10. Even if you do see a butterfly on its way to Bloomingdale's to buy a hat, it will most likely turn out to be a mistake. As almost all hats are. :)

  15. There are tons of these white butterflies (moths?) everywhere here. My dogs think it's quite hilarious to run through the grass and scatter them everywhere then chase them.
