art-athon

earlier this week the mom's group i'm in walked across the park to the met to see the angel tree. it's in the medieval section of the museum, which my very favorite section lately.

i had such a great time and wished we could stay longer, so this weekend, as soon as brandon had a break in studying, we bundled up for a cold family walk across the park and a good, long day at the museum. i'm obsessed with filling up my iphone with as many silly pictures as possible. here are some of my favorites from the day:

i found two paintings while we were there that looked like my sisters, below.
(sorry alex, but that painting is of a boy. he has a mustache.)

i felt way bummed that i hadn't found a painting that looked like me,
but then i found it.

then i picked out my favorite painting of the afternoon, van gogh's "shoes"

afterward we walked home past my favorite central park statue,
and brandon attempted to get a picture of me.

eh.

it was a really great day.

date night

last night for date night we saw the new harry potter. only we saw it in shifts. we still haven't found a babysitter and honestly it kinds of makes me anxious to think about it, so. (new mom! is it obvious?) so brandon saw the 3:00, and then as soon as the baby was down for the night i went to see the 10:30. it was kind of fun seeing a movie alone, actually, and downing an entire large diet coke all by myself really fast. though i did jump a few times and i did wish i had a redhead to whisper all my hilarious thoughts to.

(speaking of: when did ron weasley get all hunky and stuff?)

(speaking of also: but if i were hermione i probably would have gone for harry. let's be honest.)

(speaking of again: hermione and i totally share a middle name!)

(this post is super pointless.)

hey! here are some pictures from my night on the town! soon enough we'll all be sick of seeing my lazy iphone pictures but you know, that's life.

accidental cute outfit tonight.

i spotted this after the movie on my way to the bathroom. it's a real place!
i want to go inside SO BAD.

the little puffy shoulders is what gave them away

Henry Holbrook woke up on the morning of Christmas Eve wearing pajamas that were simply too tight.

"I could have sworn these fit you last night!" his mother exclaimed as she greeted Henry Holbrook in his crib. Henry Holbrook scrunched his legs up tight to his chest, and reached his arms high for the heavens, and he smiled his goofy lopsided smile as his mother lifted him out of his warm bed.

And so Henry Holbrook's mother took him out on the town to find new Christmas pajamas. What a lucky duck.

But when everyone got home for the afternoon and those pajamas received closer inspection, it turned out that Henry Holbrook's mother had unwittingly purchased for her only son a pair of little girl's pajamas. Oh dear.

Henry Holbrook's mother shrugged her shoulders and declared to all who were listening, "Oh, well."

And so it is that on every fourth night, Henry Holbrook wears a pair of little girl's pajamas to bed. And oh how those pajamas force Henry Holbrook to cause mischief.

One night those little girl's pajamas gave Henry Holbrook the idea to wake his mother every three hours with forceful demands to be fed. Now!

On another night those little girl's pajamas sent funny ideas to Henry Holbrook's insides, causing a rumble so sinful in the back end of his diaper that the devil himself had to hide.

When Henry Holbrook awakes wearing those little girl's pajamas, he awakes with a devilishly clever gleam in his eyes, and wreaks all sorts of havoc until his mother finally removes those little girl's pajamas, tosses them in the laundry hamper, and then Henry Holbrook returns to his normal, rational, perfectly respectable self.

Lopsided smile and all.

okay, january

I think all of my problems could be solved if I just had a full-length mirror. We don't currently have one and it is just weird. How am I supposed to know how I am feeling about things if I don't have a full-length mirror? Do you know how old it gets for me to walk down to the elevator bank just to see what I'm looking like from the waist down?

Now that I mention it, I think that elevator bank must have some kind of mystical powers, because every time my neighbor waits for an elevator there he belches mightily. Today I was giving Huck a bath, when from out in the hall he burped so loudly I thought it might shake the walls of the apartment. And then Huck peed in the bath and I said, "now it's a party," according to Holbrook Bath Time Tradition.

I understand how sometimes elevator banks can make you do weird things, don't get me wrong, but one of these days I might just pop my head out the door and call, "BLESS YOU!" which would be my passive-aggressive way of saying, "ARE YOU FOR REALS?"

These days when I am singing every Disney song in my repertoire, huck starts singing along with me. it is the cutest. He hoos like an owl and coos like a dove and then smacks his lips at me. Bless that child but he wants nothing more than my boobs (gets that from his daddy). I happily oblige because when he is nursing is when I do my best thinking.

But after just two months of it I am out of deep things to think about, so now if I am nursing I am most likely thinking about my hair.

Nursing is also when I get my best roll inspection done.

Sargent Mom, reporting for Roll Patrol!

Today while on line to exchange a candle at Guantanamopologie I discovered a new roll in the left quadrant of Huck's third chin. I wiped out a whole clan of spitup that must have been there since the dawn of the cavemen. It was kind of like that dream I have where I find a whole new wing of my house, and that wing is where I happened to have stored all my spare gold at some point.

I call the Anthropologie on 50th Guantanamopologie, because going in that place is TORTURE. I'm pretty clever sometimes.

Sometimes Brandon will try to give me writing advice. Just now he told me that I should try to seem like a person of substance.

"Don't talk about shallow things," he said.

Well, shoot.

Here are two photos that were taken today on Buster.
(Buster is my iPhone.)

the year behind

we started 2010 in idaho, with cattle and wheat fields, hoping for a baby, counting down the days until Brandon graduated from law school.

we ended 2010 in a teeny little apartment high above new york city, rocking a tiny baby to sleep. and while i'm still counting down the days until my husband graduates from law school, i have to tell you, that baby is both fat and gurgly, and life has given us everything we ever hoped for.
