For People Who Worry About Such Things

This one is for my mother-in-law,
who doesn't think there is enough nature in NYC.

  2. Birds freak me out, especially the pigeons in New York that do "people things." I used to freak out every time I saw them wandering around inside Port Authority or Path Stations like they belonged there or something.

  3. YIKES! I have this thing where I kind of, like, hate pigeons. (Bad experience with the winged creatures in London...) This picture is seriously nightmarish!

  6. Ew. I made the same mistake outside the Louvre--I took pity on a lone pigeon and tried offering it some of my baguette from lunch.

"Don't do it, Megan!!!" my friends said. "They'll be all over you!"

"But he's all alone, and he looks hungry!" I said.

"Okay, whatever," my friends said, edging away from me.

I dropped one teensy crumb, and by the time it hit the pavement, I was SWARMED by a demonic cloud of French pigeons doing everything in their power to wrest my baguette from me, and probably give me the plague. I was forced to run screaming from the area, thus attracting the attention of every Parisian in the Louvre courtyard, who of course gave me the same dreaded look: "Stupid American tourist." They probably checked me for a belt pack and tennis shoes, too, just to rack up a few more clichés.
