BUY A SWING!

This post is sponsored by Disney Baby. I'll be joining the Disney Baby blogging team next month, and look forward to sharing these kinds of stories (projects/ideas/etc) with you over there! Stay tuned for more details!

if i could go back in time to visit new-mom-natalie and tell her anything in the world, it would be:
scrap the street corner junk baby swing that's ugly and makes huck spit up so much
and spend some cash on a real swing.

what one thing do you wish you could tell your new mom self?

  1. I don't wish I'd told my new newborn-mom-self anything, but I wish I'd told my new toddler-mom-self to relax and enjoy her. Give her lots of kisses on her disappearing fat cheeks, and laugh and enjoy all her escapades.

  2. buy a NEW crib lady!!! yeah it was gently used, yeah it was a steal of deal but you want more kids right? hows the rickety thing holding out for you now? oh, you just sold it at a garage sale and need a new one if you want another baby? forget the silly bouncy thing and the ba-zillion baby boy hats and get yo-self a good crib.

  3. My husband and I were just talking about what dumb new parents we were! We had no idea about anything.

One thing I'd tell my self then? Geesh... I'd tell myself to let the baby take his naps on me and not to worry about how he's not suppose to fall asleep eating. Who cares. It works!

Oh, and get more sleep. Hire a cleaning service if I need to. Just sleep!!!

  4. swings are top of my list for when i have kids. i remember my two little sisters being born and oh how that swing saved our sanity (and our eardrums)

  5. i would have told myself to get a second room sooner! and get a swing before that baby was out of the womb!

  6. I would tell myself, and all new moms, to buy a moby wrap. Hold their babies as much as possible. Those moments are fleeting and you'll never regret time spent with your baby close by.

  7. definitely to get a jogging stroller. oh, how I'd love to go jogging with my little
boy! I'd also say, "get newborn photographs taken! right now!!"

  8. So funny, my son HATED the swing, and the jumper. Wasted money for our family, but maybe he was the minority? ;) I actually wrote about how our baby products are holding up after two years on my blog here:

As for advice? I would tell myself not to sweat the messy house, and my unkempt hair and remember - it goes by fast.

  9. Lose the stopwatch when nursing and relax already!

  10. Yes, he really is suppose to nurse THIS much. Every two hours on the dot, lady so quit trying to fight it!

  11. Ha! We used to call the swing "the babysitter" We knew hands down we could definitely have a 5 minute grown up conversation when that thing came on.

What would I have told new mom me? To just CHILL out. For the first year I figured I just had to be perfect. House, kid, husband. If I would have just settled down and enjoyed some more of the quiet moments. (although, as a mom of a pre teen and nine year old, I can say I'm totally making up for it, because boy to those natives rock my socks. :)

  13. Splurge and buy the baby bjorn and then forgive yourself the cost each and every time you think about the cost ...and walk, walk, walk outdoors, often, with baby. Fresh air-- it's free and it's good for baby and for you too!

  14. We always laugh saying we understand why people have at least two kids because they actually get to use their knowledge and possibly even get it right by the second one:)

Don't be so scared! Everything will turn out okay. Get out of the house more, the baby won't break that easily.

  16. Put the baby in the cute, expenisve outfits in ordinary days. They grow out of them too soon anyway. When they get older, you will smile at the stains.

I also learned after my first was born that in choosing to dress him like a "little big boy" that it made it feel like he was big all to quickly. With child #2 (and #3 and #4) I dressed him in baby blues and gowns as long as possible so I could cherish the infant stage.

  17. Put the baby in the swing, try to pump enough so that dad can feed her, and for petes sake RELAX

  18. If you have too much milk, pump first and THEN let the baby nurse. Everyone will be happier. Prod the spouse to seek help for post-partum depression sooner. More use of the swing for sure!

  19. Enjoy it. Relax. You can sleep later. You'd think I'd have figured most things out with my first 5, but it was with my last (who's now 2, the oldest is 11) that I could really take it easy, because I wasn't try to hurry things along to the next baby. Buy a Slingling (folds up TINY, super-comfortable, wears many different ways up to 2+ yrs). Don't worry so much about losing the baby weight, you have the rest of your life to be skinny. Don't freak out about every little thing, most of it they won't remember, and you won't warp them nearly as much as you think you will. Cherish the late nights when they won't sleep, come school age you may not be able to wake them up. Get as much cuddle time as you can, it's harder to come by when they're pre-teens. Teaching them to be responsible and self-reliant saves you LOADS of work as they get bigger (along with your family size), getting themselves dresses, tying shoes, making lunches, telling time, reading, picking up after themselves - they are so proud of accomplishing things, and it saves you all those jobs! Worry less about teaching, training, caring, cleaning and mothering them...and more time LOVING them. The rest will usually take care of itself. :)

  20. Lay her down to sleep in her crib in her nursery! Definitely will be doing this with baby number A one day!

  21. It's OK if they cry. They're not broken.

It's ok if they cry when you put them into their beds. They're new to this...

  23. Natalie, that baby is delicious, yummy, what a sweetie!
I have two grown sons and, like you said, the best place to kiss them (still) is on the back of the neck. I just have to sneak up on them now, though. Thanks for those memories.

  24. I would tell myself to slow down and enjoy it more.
