STAYCATIONS IN THE PARK

we got to enjoy a bit of a staycation last week. having brandon home in the middle of a random tuesday was probably the greatest thing. we made plenty of family duane reade runs and plenty of family playground runs and one very lovely surprise middle-of-the-week family picnic run. i can't think of a better way to close out this summer season than lying on a picnic blanket in the fading summer sun with my two favorite dudes.

we have this great picnic spot in sheep's meadow right under this big old tree. it's cool in the shade and there's always really great people-watching. we usually stop at the magnolia bakery on 69th and columbus on our way in, because every picnic should end with a cupcake taste test is how i figure, and sometimes if our picnic is more of a last-minute deal we'll even buy boxed salads and sandwiches from the le pain quotidien just across from the meadow. instant picnic! their cobb salad is real good. if it's super super last minute and we don't have a blanket on hand we'll sometimes sit on a couple flattened baggu bags. i keep a bunch in the stroller. groceries? picnic? resourcefulness? check!

p.s. on me:
shirt: c/o everlane in navy ryan
jeans: abercrombie super skinny in destroyed medium wash
(no i know, but they fit so well!)

on huck:
tank: american apparel
shorts: gap kids (the little girls section, hah)
hat: h&m

  3. I complimented my husband a couple days ago on his arm & leg hair. He was pretty flattered, I would say. Also, just have to tell you..that hair length was made for you, I think. Looks so stinking cute!

  11. Looks like this post didn't go through to RSS feeds (your new feed or your old feed). Is that a glitch or a new thing?

  12. I love a little gray hair on my man! When my husbands hair grows a little too long (he likes a super duper short crop that I do for him...) there is some serious gray through that dark head of wavy locks! So, no, you are not alone with your gray-haired-husband dream!

  13. Confession: My junior year of college, I sat next to this tall, dreamy basketball player from California in one of my classes and I used to spend a good chunk of said class looking at the copious freckles under this bleach blonde arm hair. How did he manage to have tan skin and freckles and bleach blonde hair all at once in one person-package? How. p.s. I signed up for the sequel (whatever you call it) to that class solely because he said he was going to. Another semester of arm observance ensued.

  14. I'm always looking for new hair products to try. I have huge, thick, curly, frizzy, sometimes dry and sometimes oily hair. It's long now and I can never decide if I should chop it off. Thanks for the insight!
I also love the shorts that your little guy is wearing! I'm always tempted to shop in the girls section for things for my little guy, but sometimes I can't tell what is just a little too girly!

  16. Hooray for staycating and cupcakes and all, but I'm confused about the Pantene tie-in. What does your picnic have to do with your advert for Pantene? I only ask because your other sponsored posts are much clearer. Your hair looks nice, but am I missing something?

    1. hi mm! I was just trying to make the post more than just about the spray to minimize the schilly-ness. I guess you win some and you lose some.

    2. I was wondering the same thing! LOL

    3. Nat, I LOVE your blog and don't worry if your posts are all about a sponsored product. You give us enough amazing content, that a post about Pantene is worth reading any day of the week!
I'm happy to support you and your family and the products you decide to write about.

  17. Your hair is really workin' with the new cut and no styling products - so cute! I often try not to wash mine much or use heated products on it either, it makes your hair much more manageable (eventually)

  18. That city makes QUITE the backdrop to anything. I mean, a TRASH can would look good against the NYC skyline, let alone your darling family.

  23. Oh goodness! I have been a Pantene user for about 20 years now and don't think I will ever switch. I will have to give their Keratin spray a try.

Btw...I did a shout out to you on my blog yesterday. You know...in case you were wondering were the surge of new readers were coming from. It was just me and my 99 followers.

  24. I used to only use Pantene, until they changed the formula of their curly hair line. =( I wish they'd make a sulfate & silicone free line--I'd jump right back on the Pantene bandwagon! Use your powers to make that happen! =) In all seriousness though, I love your hair like this!

  25. I like Pantene, but since they aren't cruelty free I can't use it.

  26. Your hair is to die for, so maybe I'll have to take a cue from you and stop washing/brushing/styling so much!

  27. Hey Natalie--

Where are the black jeans from? (In the bathroom picture)

    Thank you!!

  28. Erm. I'm a convert. I think I may need some keratin oil or something because YOUR HAIR. It's the bomb.

And I would've bought those jeans, too. They're cute and fit you great. So psh, whatever, haters.

  29. I love your photos! How do you make them so enlarged! Pray tell if you don't mind! I'd like to make mine larger on my blog! Thanks!

  30. I think someone might need to check your back rooms and hidden closets for torture devices, because I think it's pretty evident that you've somehow stretched your baby Huck's chubby legs into full-fledged little boy legs! Criminal! (But oh so cute in shorty shorts!!)

  31. Hey Natalie! Can I ask what size Everlane Ryan shirt you have? You look divine and I think I need to get me one!
