TEN DATES // 01 A YANKEES GAME

i can't even wrap my mind around this but the brandon and i have been married now for ten years.

t e n  y e a r r r r r r r s.

to celebrate, we are embarking on a year-long project . . . to finally date each other.

since brandon and i fell in love over email (that story would be HERE), we never really dated. i think we went on four dates, max. maybe five? blame it on college and getting to classes on time and working shifts at the restaurant and studying for exams. we didn't have much spare time and any spare time we did have we spent almost exclusively always making out.

we've had ten years of marriage to make it right and get on the date night train and you know what . . . we haven't. excuses excuses excuses, broke grad school kids, broke new york city kids, and now we're just not in the habit. it's pretty dang sad is what it is, steve. so, we're going to fix it! i'd make a joke about teaching old dogs new tricks but i don't want you doing the math and realizing brandon is turning THIRTY SIX this year. do they kick you off the blogs when your husband turns 40? ;)

so to celebrate our tenth year, we are teaming up with HowAboutWe and going on ten dates! all planned and booked by the clever dating service HowAboutWe, our new sponsors. HowAboutWe started as an online dating site, but has since expanded to include a membership service that gets couples already in relationships out on date nights tailored for two. your night is planned for you from start to finish, including any reservations you need made or tickets you need booked.

(to see if HowAboutWe has services in your area and to browse available date nights, click HERE.)

for our anniversary date, HowAboutWe sent us on the 360 sky suite date at the yankees/orioles game. seats in a suite! we felt like jay-z. it'd been a million years since we'd been to a yankees game (we last went on brandon's 28th birthday). we'd been talking for months about getting to a game to see the new stadium.

the evening could not have been more perfect. HowAboutWe sent a car service to pick us up, we strolled right on in, had an amazing dinner, and when the game was over they sent a car to pick us up and drop us off at home. while we waited for the car brandon showed me his best aziz ansari impression and i've never laughed harder in my life. we were so thrilled with the attention paid to every aspect of the night, and had so much fun. it felt like a true night out for both of us, since neither of us had to do any of the planning or worry about any of the logistics. i've aways loved going to baseball games, but brandon especially had the time of his life. it was so fun to pick something that i knew he would really love. he works so hard, i get to play way more than he does, and watching his face light up when we first walked into that suite was everything. what a dream night.

a few photos from our date:

i promise i shared (most of) those desserts.

we'll be spreading the rest of our dates over the course of the year. we're thinking maybe a broadway show, or backstage passes to swan lake, or a special for-lovers tour of the Met, or a food crawl! and definitely a night at the batting cages. HowAboutWe has a concierge service you can use to customize any dates you book--how fun would it be to have a dinner of hot pretzels and sauerkraut delivered to you in the middle of a batting session?

this is a sponsored post! thank you so much to our sponsor HowAboutWe for the fun opportunity, and thank you as always for supporting the companies that help support our family.

p.s. HowAboutWe is offering $50 off your first date when you use the promo link HERE
(applies to new members only, expires 12/31/13.)

  20. I've followed your blog for a while now but never commented. I love this line -"any spare time we did have we spent almost exclusively always making out" - super honest and funny. love it. happy anniversary - 10 years, you've made it!

  21. That just a great date idea! Or ideas!! Glad you both had a great date at the game! I wonder how many times I can say 'date' in this comment? Date, date, date, date, date....etc.
And happy 10 year anniversary to you two!! I'm about to read how you both met, which I wondered about(not in a creepy way), so I can try and live vicariously through you (okay, that sounded creepy). Kidding. Just so I can read a cute love story :) I loved that you said that you both fell in love over email though. Just a cute touch.

  22. how fun! you both look super happy, which is the best part of date night. or the best part could be those cupcakes... LOL

  23. Why so rude, There Goes the Neighborhood? So Nat has a new sponsor, what's the big deal? So she makes a little extra money, what's it to you? Do people follow you to work and grouse about you getting paid to do something? Of course not, that's ridiculous. But then again, so was your comment. If you can't think of something nice to say, don't say anything at all.

  28. I for one am happy to see your sponsored posts, and to support your sponsors, blog, and lovely family! You rock, keep on!

I am a fairly new reader and was so happy to read the story of how you and Brandon fell in love. Swoon-worthy! You've Got Mail has nothing on you two!

And... that kiddo of yours sure is cute! I've got my own one-year old Henry, he's everything.

Thanks for sharing, and doing it with such humor and grace!

  29. Oh how I wish I could sign up for that service. I love your sponsored blog posts. Come on really - how many of us can really afford to try out all these things without someone sponsoring it? Good job. Keep up the good work.

  30. Good for you! You work hard and deserve to have some sponsored fun. Heck, I'd love a sponsorship, but that would require me to write each day in an amusing enough manner so that others would be willing to read it and that definitely won't be happening in my lifetime. Not my skill set. Now, if you want a mean old tax return prepped, I'm all over that! LOL

  32. Someone else may have already mentioned it, but HAW is also set up for the Chicago area, not just SF and NYC. I signed up and am looking at the options for my first wedding anniversary, which is next week. I wanted to go see Nick Offerman but my husband has school that night. Boo! :)

I'm glad you have a nifty new sponsor! Good tidings to you and yours ... :)
