TO DO IN NEW YORK: THE CLOISTERS

one sunday while my mom was in town, we decided to play hookie from church and visit the cloisters, which, if you're going to play hookie it may as well be to see medieval religious art.

the cloisters is a branch of the metropolitan museum of art dedicated to medieval and religious art, set inside a castle located wayy up on the northernmost tip of manhattan, it kiiiiiiiind of felt like hogwarts.

  2. Weird. I was in a meeting this morning and someone referenced the Cloisters and I thought, "What are these Cloisters about which she is talking? I will just smile and nod and pretend like I know exactly what she means..." Lo and behold, I come back to my desk, turn on the Google, and there is your post - before I can even look it up, you've already shown me the way! Nat, you're the best architecture teacher I've ever had! Happy Friday!

  4. There are religious artifacts so it totally counts as church! It def does look like the inside of Hogwarts, which makes me want to spontaneously drive to Manhattan and visit.

  6. I'm pretty sure that's the 13th commandment or something. Thou shalt not go to church if thou finds something better to do.

    Hmmmm........ that doesn't sound right.

  7. good pictures...if you ever go to the Dali museum in St. Pete, Florida...get the headphones and don't bother going on a tour, just listen in when the mood strikes you.

I'll have to add that to my list of places to visit on my NYC trip.

  12. My hubs has the book "King of the Confessors" the story of how the Cloisters got that amazing Cloisters Cross. We both will someday make the pilgrimage to see it! Glad you had such a lovely time.
