Request 003: MORE DOGS

Today I would like to talk about my dogs.

This is Peter "Don't Cut My Nails" Pan. In case you've forgotten.

This is Barnaby "Poop In My Pants" MacDuff. He is happy to see you.

This is what Petey looks like when I leave the house.

And this is what Petey looks like when I get back.

This is how Petey prefers to sit and watch LOST with us.

This is how Brandon feels about it.

Today I shared some sausage with my dogs, and did not bother at all to edit the photos so they wouldn't be all orange.

Barnaby, on the other hand . . .

"What is this? A snausage?"
(Please note the crossed eyes.)

This is some pretty thrilling stuff, isn't it?

The other day Barnaby MacDuff stole one of Peter Pan's babies. Barnaby doesn't know quite what to do with these toys, but he knows that the longer he keeps them from Peter, the more fun things will get. So he laid on top of that toy like a log in the middle of the living room as Peter Pan whined and cried and danced about with a worried expression. It was hysterical, and Barnaby showed no mercy, prompting The Holbs to wonder aloud,

"What will it be like when we have kids that do this too? How are we going to handle this from two species at once?"

And then we watched Peter claw at the air three feet in front of Barney's face, while Barney looked on, completely unfazed, perched comfortably on that stuffed blue stegosaurus.

"Eh, I'll be working."

  1. Oh my goodness! Mr. Pan is such a gentleman isn't he? I can't believe he sits on Senor Holbs like that, mostly because my dog does the exact same thing. Apparently my shoulder/neck region is the perfect spot for some tv watching. Never mind that her big poofy Pomeranian tail is all in my face. Here I was thinking she was the only one to ever come up with such an idea. You be sure to let that Peter pup know he has a kindred spirit in Miss Gracie girl yes?

I enjoyed this post thoroughly and completely. Thank you much. :)

  2. Your dogs are very sweet. You do a great job capturing their distinct personalities. Don't dogs just make you feel better at the end of the day? (Except when they leave messes that smell of a variety of things -- poo, garbage, poo, cat litter, poo.)

  4. hi nat - I'm a regular reader but never commented before. this post is eerily similar to the story of our puggles, olive and thena. they cannot be trusted with free reign of the house when we're not home because of the literal devastation they caused back when we were foolish enough to trust them. now we 'baby-gate' them in the kitchen, which in my mind is no punisment at all...they have a bed in there, we leave the tv and lights on, toys, etc but they still carry on as if it physically pains them to be in there. such actresses. anyway, you've inspired me to post a few photos of them on my own blog...people shouldn't be fooled though - on the outside they appear to be all puggly and cute but on the inside they are monsters ;) love your blog! erin

  7. I need a room full of people with which to read your blog, like a quilting bee, because laughing out loud in a house alone is fun, but not as fun as it could be. I'll at least get to talk to my mom on the phone later today about Barney's crossed eyes, and Pete's delicate fork usage. Brilliant! Oh! and please let us know where those cute tights came from, ma'am!!!

  8. Awwwww...they are both incredibly sweet. Barney looks so cute snuggled on his pillow and Peter looks like an angel curled up on the couch. I love how Peter daintily takes the sausage off the fork, while Barnaby chomps on the whole fork.

  9. Petey is so much more refined. Barnaby is still just a pup.

  10. It's not that I don't love Peter Pan, you know. How could one NOT think he's cute, oozing with propriety and stuff?! I mean, really.

And after a post like this, I can see why I could be wrong in loving Mr. MacDuff just a little bit more. Oh, his destruction of the bedroom, littering it with poop and whatnot...well, it hurts my heart. But...LOOK at him! He's just precious!

As for the sausage pictures of your lovlies...laughing that the Pan can actually eat off a fork like the little human he almost is. And laughing over Barney's crossed eyes of ecstacy.

  13. ahh! I saw your reply to Rachel's (Heart of Light) post about dog neckwear and I had to see your pup for myself. As I said to Rachel, I had a fox wire terrier growing up and he was the canine love of my life. It is not often you see people with this breed and every time I see one, it makes me so happy.

Your two dogs are just adorable. I sent a link to this post in an e-mail to my friends saying that when I get myself together, I will get two little shaggy, bearded dogs just like yours!!!

  14. Oh thanks for the chuckle. Your pups are too cute. Lost really gets Peter Pan on the edge of his seat, huh? And Barnaby's crosseyed look at the sausage was just too much.

    You have some great entertainers!

  15. This is so funny, and I definitely laughed out loud! I think it's funny The Holbs lets Petey sit right there... although my husband has done about the same thing. Thanks for sharing!

  18. I am completely and utterly endeared to Peter Pan. Especially after our discussion last night combined with these photographs. I think Barnaby on the other hand.....kidding kidding...

  19. Your doggy stories just make my day! It reminds me of my Barney-of-a-different-breed at home. She's a mess too. That's why she must live outside. But we love her!

By the way, love the pics!

  20. Maybe I should really confine Stewie (our little naughty pup) who seems to wee-wee and poo sometimes while I am out. Drives me nuts because he will go for a very long time not being naughty and then out of know where just go through a streak! Funny post but I can say I would not like to be surprised by what I might come home to like poo everywhere in my bedroom. OOOHHHHH EEEWWWW! But like me I can tell you love your puppies and we have a whole lot of forgiveness in us to love them...just the same mistakes and all....Peter Pan must think he is a little dog the way he is perched on your hubby...really funny!

  21. Hahaha! "Wall of tooty air." I seriously almost vomited.

  22. Jessie, they are Walmart tights! Does that make you think less of me?

  23. Peter and my dog Bear could start a gentleman's club, full of propriety and etiquette and such (Bear frequently crosses his paws when he's holding court). Not sure what naughty little Barnaby would do yet, but there has to be something right?

  24. That has got to be the most classic dog post I have ever read. Thank you.

  25. Everyone has to have the experience of having that pet that seems to be missing a few marbles. It makes the normal ones seem so much more elite, really. Poor Barnaby, though, to simultaneously have this classy pooch in whose shadow he must dwell...

  26. Your pups really are too cute. My cousins' dog has potty issues sometimes, and they put her in a diaper. Maybe Barnaby needs one of those sometimes...?!

Jessie asked about the tights (WM! Good find!) and I'm curious about the shoes. I think I'm in love with them, and I don't even really like any type of heel. But those are marvelous!

  27. I love that your dog watches Lost with his ass in your husband's face! That tickled me no end. Also strangely made me want a dog even more.
I would quite like to steal your shoes too.

  29. Dear Natalie, I love your blog!
But the real point of business here- Peter Pan is absolutely adorable. Did you ever notice how that one brown spot he has looks a whole awful lot like the elbow patch on a tweed jacket?

  30. I'm a Peter Pan Fan! Yup! PP and I would be good buds!

  31. People always ask me how I know which dog it was and I tell them the same thing "people please...I know. Trust me!"
