Request 004: MY FAVORITE THINGS

Well, tonight it appears that I am blogging! Holbsbreath, you are welcome!

I am going to tell you about some of my favorites things. Here we go. I will call it,

Nat's Favorites!
Because now it looks official.

Vanilla Cones from McDonald's

Cardigans are my favorite sweater. If you are wearing a cardigan I will want to go up to you and pet you, because you will look cute, because everybody looks cute in a cardigan.

Wedge sandals are my favorite. I also love wedge salads! What are the odds of that happening?

My favorite kind of M&Ms these days are Peanut Butter M&Ms. Unless of course we are talking about M&Ms mixed in popcorn (also known as "Heaven"), in which case it must be Peanut M&Ms, and you should toss them in while the popcorn is hot so they get a little melty.

My favorite soap is Dove white soap. I use it on my face because the expensive stuff isn't as good. So there.

My favorite place to shop for clothes these days is Walmart. I know.

I love the feeling of running off a really bad day. You know when you're laying on the couch a grouchy mess, and then you decide to be a real woman and take it out on the streets, and then while you run you kind of grunt a lot? That's totally my favorite.

Today while I was working, four teenaged girls came into the store. One girl was dressed like Alice in Wonderland, blue dress and all, with a lacy apron and a blue embroidered cape tied around her neck with a huge satin bow. Another wore this frothy pink toile clogging dress, and another girl had on a blue gingham dress with sagging knee socks and lots of eye glitter, and then the last girl was wearing -- believe it -- jeans and a tee shirt. The four of them. The Alice in Wonderland girl was pushing a young baby in a stroller. I wanted to know, where did she find that baby? It just did not make any sense.

I made eyes at my Manager in the break room and said in a low voice, "youhavetocomeseethis," and then I made my way to the front of the store to go and say hello.

As I watched them swoosh around the store in their fluffy dresses I couldn't stop smiling.

Harajuku girls at my mall in Moscow. That is definitely my favorite.

  1. I also love Disney's Alice in Wonderland, not sure I'm going to love the Tim Burton version coming out next month, but I will see it for sure. I don't know what I would do if I saw someone in full Alice garb... Quite a vision in my mind right now!!
I love peanut M&Ms and popcorn, and will need to try the two together.
I can't bring myself to buy clothes, or much of anything at Walmart, but I do love me some Target and I buy a ton of awesome clothes there.
Love this post, you can send me a vanilla cone from McD's anytime!

  4. These girls sound like my sister, who has lived in Japan and makes "cosplay" costumes custom-ordered online and regularly confuses me with her clothing choices. I try not to judge, but it slips out sometimes! It's always an accident because I never know if it is actually a costume she made for someone or just her everyday wardrobe. I feel you sister.

  5. And I mean that second sister in a comrade-ly way, not in the way that I am referring to my actual sister.

  6. I can't tell you how much I enjoyed this! Not only are you a fantastic writer, but I share so very many of your "favorites!" Definitely, at the top of that list, is my deep, deep love for people (girls, especially!) who dress like they want to, regardless of what ANYONE else thinks about it! LOVE it! Thanks for sharing!

    This post is my favorite!

  7. Anthropologie is like an apology. I know I just royally misspelled that name, but you know what? Oh well.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE me some Walmart. Miley Cyrus fashion line here I come (minus the stirrup pants, those have just GOT to GO!).

  8. Cardigans? YES! Primark (UK equivalent to Walmart clothes). One step ahead of ya sista! Trying to talk sensibly to Harajuku girls? Uh-huh. You let me down on the chocolate though. It always has to be Nestle Galaxy or Cadbury's Dairy Milk. It was all going so well...

  9. Eating M&Ms slightly melty with popcorn is the best!

  10. As I sit here typing, I'm glowing with pride. Because I am wearing a cardigan. And I wore a cardigan yesterday. I have maybe 6 or 7 cardigans, and I don't think it's enough. -Anyway, you'd totally want to pet me, because I'm a cardigan-wearing fool! Aww, I feel all sorts of validated now.

Also, I totally love the Peanut Butter M&Ms. But did you know? The best way to eat them (it's true!) is to squish them between thumb and pointer, then lick the mess off said digits. I discovered this a couple of years back, and I can't NOT eat them that way any more. You ought to at least try it...

  11. Your stories made me raise an eyebrow AND smile at the same time. Can you imagine? But I absolutely love your peanut M&M and popcorn idea... I'm totally trying it when I get home. Because M&Ms and peanut butter and popcorn are my favorites! Why didn't I ever think to put them together? Brilliant!

  12. I think you need to add your diet coke. I know my day isn't complete without a pilgrimage for my favorite drink.

  13. The baby: it was hers. I'll bet you $100. Trust me on this one.

Also, I was kidnapped when I made Chamber Choir too! Totally forgot about that until you mentioned it.

  14. You just never know what vision you may see on any given day. It certainly makes you wonder why....oh why...were they dressed like that...it is past Halloween...hhhmmmm...but a great source of entertainment I would say...

  15. McDonalds ice cream cones are the BEST. I know what each McDonalds in my area charges for a cone, and where I can get the best deal. Best part, those little buggers are low in calories too, so I don't feel too guilty when I one every day in the summertime!

  16. Wal-Mart DOES have cute things! I even have a cute purple cardigan from there. :)

  17. never had melty peanut M&M's in popcorn..It sounds divine and I feel a little upset that no one has mentioned this to me earlier! I'm almost 40 flippin years old and I find out NOW?? Crimineys!!!

  18. Mmmmmm, I love the vanilla cones at McD's, but I've started to love the Ice Dreams at Chik-fil-a even better. Mostly because if you order a kid's meal you can trade your toy out for an Ice Dream...nuggets, fries, DC and an ID?! Now that is Heaven!

Also, I love wearing my Walmart, Target, or even Old Navy around my snobby friends because they definitely don't shop there so they think I have such a good eye. When asked where I got my shirt/scarf/shoes/etc., I simply say, "Oh just a little shop near my house." Works every time ;)

  19. I love the McDonald's cone, too. Did you know they used to do twist cones, but now they just do vanilla? I don't know if that is true everywhere, but I think in the midwest it is. I like vanilla, but twist was my favorite-best of both worlds.

You are right about cardigans and making a cute outfit from the hodge-podge of clothing one owns from various stores, and yes, that includes Walmart.

Yep, the M&Ms with popcorn is great, so is, if you like Junior Mints, Junior Mints and popcorn, the melty thing happens with those, too, and it is pretty fantastic.

  20. Oh yes, I love me some cardigans too. It is not possible to own too many. Like scarves.

I'm curious about these peanut butter M&Ms. I don't think we have those in Australia, only plain old peanut ones (which I love). Are they like Reece's peanut butter cups inside? That would be wonderful. Reece's are divine (and SO BAD).

I'm guessing Walmart is like Kmart or something? We have Big W here, and that's a good place to find some great items. You have to sort through the racks, but worth it for a bargain.

    Great post!

  21. I love that you called her fancy. It's the outdated and no longer cool version of classy.

  22. Oh, so many good things!! My aunt is a big fan of Reese's Pieces with popcorn, which is the same concept. I prefer butterscotch chips all melty with my popcorn. Mmmm!

That Alice dress sounds divine. I do wonder, tho, what drives ppl to dress the way they do sometimes. Not in a bad way, just in a curious one, if that makes sense. : )

  23. My favorite is the girl in jeans and tee with her compadres. She made me smile.

  24. Yes, please, send me a Mcdonalds Vanilla cone!! I love them. A lot.

  25. Oh Nat the Rat- thanks for honoring my little wish- it has made the week of strep leading into rotten sinus infection mucho better-o! I may just get dressed tomorrow.

    ReplyDelete
  26. p.s. melt peanut butter chips, or white or whatever, and pour it over popcorn, spread on wax paper to dry...mmm

  27. Oh Crimsonnaire initiations...I forgot about those. I got hazed too, so I completely understand. Humiliating. And when I initiated my new peeps, I didn't make them do half the embarrassing things I had to do.

Sigh. Thanks for bringing back that memory, haha.
